Our home has some house lizards like all homes here, I think they are part of our homes like mosquitoes, ants, cockroach etc.
My granddaughter Subhee is very fond of looking at one in our drawing room wall. She calls her ‘BUI’, the common name for insect in our dialect.
Now she wants a name for it.
She had named all her dolls too.
I said, let its name be TAKTAK, as it produces sound at times.
But she wants another.
Do your kids keep names for pets, dolls?
Please suggest a name for her lizard. Please respond and share your opinion.

God bless you to enjoy a lucky day ahead.

The house lizard you are referring to is what we call a gecko here in Australia & my house is full of them! Why not call the lizard gecko? About 6 years ago, I lived up north in Mackay in a caravan until I found a house to rent & I had an Eastern Brown snake (one of the deadliest in Australia) living under my caravan...he was about 2 meters long..he left us alone & we left him alone but I named him Frank.

You lived in a caravan, is that kind of tent? The name Frank is good for the snake because he did no harm, wat i am told is snakes bite only if disturbed to protesct it self
glad to know you call lizards as gecko lol
Thanks for sharing
Happy posting, cheers.

A caravan is like a house on wheels that you can pull with your car.

Hi friend, moonchild1au is right, house lizards are called geckos in most Western countries, my former American neighbor who also lived in Miami and South America called them Gecko. I'm amazed at the similarity in our language, house lizards are called "butiki" maybe you can call him that and the larger ones that seem to be related to the salamander are called "bubuli" and the even larger ones with large eyes and found mostly in the countrysides are called "tuko" yes because of the sound they make.
I'm glad that your grand daughter takes interest in reptiles, I teach my children too not to kill reptiles unlike the other kids because of it's importance to the eco-balance, I teach them that this creatures control the mosquito and other disease causing insect population checked. Good luck friend

kalyani acca, please let me share my son's story. we have some rabbits at our home. One is called tabsi. ( What a meaningful word. it was a male rabbit. Suddenly it suprised us by giving birth to a young rabbit baby. so it is not a male. it is a female. Now my son is searching a female name for it. if you like the name Tabsi why don#t you select that.

I usually name all dolls according to its kind.
I have a penguin doll and I called her Pingu, a tiger doll in called tigy and a sushi dolls called...sushi.
The same applies to the animal.
A snake I like will be called Snaky and for some weird creature like a lizard man, I will call him/her Lizzy and get attracted to it for a long time, even until now.
It's kind of childish for my age (18) but why should I care as long as it makes me happy.

Naming a lizard, it is wonderful. Our children also name dogs with the names like cuty, chinnu etc., I feel 'chik chik' is the correct name for your lizard than 'TAKTAK'. It is quite heartening that love being showed on the animals, by your granddaughter.

Hello kalyn. When my kids were little (I have 4) The older ones had animals in the county fair. The youngest was to young to have any thing in the fair. We were at my parents house and as we were going out the door to go home a toad hopped in. The youngest wanted to capture it put it in a bird cage and take it to the fair. She said she would name it Hoppy. She was about 4 at the time. The fair didn't have a toad catagory so she just let it go out side.

hello kal,
it is so funny that nini would like to name the bui.
i could not really think of a new name now. i guess am laughing more than i am thinking.
maybe its good to give it a name that sounds similarly to its kind. that way she will easily remember the animal, depending on how you call it in your dialect.
have a nice day. i hope you finally be able to choose.

Hi there fellow mylotter :)
what i think is gecko sure is cool but you know if i get a chance to pet a reptile then the names i would put int options list are like raptor, interceptor, snakiee, dragon, forkiee, or something funny like tina, jenny, gyro, don, or the like. I love lizards too but my house is totally insects free. Sometimes you feel a bit lonely but its millions of times better than watching a roach dancing in our own place like he just bought the place. Eeewww.
Anyways you too have a nice day

I agree with everyone else, that is a gecko. I can't stand geckos
They are just creepy to me for some reason. The first time I saw one in my house, years ago, I didn't even know what it was. It was just a baby one and it looked almost transparent. It just kind of freaked me out! I chased it all over the house with a can of hair spray (that's what my sister and I always used to kill bugs) but it was very fast and it took me a long time to wear it down and it was laden with hair spray by this time. If it had been a bug I would have just stepped on it but this thing looked kind of like an embryo (I know, that's disgusting) I couldn't step on that! It was finally too tired to run any more so I took a bowl and set over it and the next morning I scooped it up with a piece of cardboard under it and the bowl on top and took it outside.
I know, it's crazy being afraid of geckos but I still can't stand them. Sometimes I will see them in the house now and will just ignore them or one of the dogs will chase them away. I no longer try to kill them but I do try to get rid of them somehow.
Since they are such fast moving little things maybe your granddaughter could name it Speedy.

Yes, my children and grand children named everything. I would suggest Lizzy the Lizard, perhaps, as it is an alliteration. I would rather have a house lizard than the bugs, as the lizard would eat the bugs.

Hmm I'm confused is this a lizard that is real or is a drawing of one on the wall. That would be very strange to have lizards running free all over and in the houses. We have mice here that get in the homes and bugs but not lizards. I've heard of lizards being around the area but its pretty rare to see one. I never have seen one in this area in the 27 years that I have been alive. We get salamanders thats about it. We have kept a few of them as pets for a few days but let them go after that. You could call the lizard lizzy which is a nickname for Elizabeth. Or she could call it Liz which is short for that as well. I think that would be cute.

I hate lizzards, I think they are ugly and scary... My sister and I are both scared of lizzards and they often appear in our house....
You should tell your granddaughter to name the lizzards monster

How sweet of your granddaughter! my kids also give names to things (both living and non-living) around the house.
My suggestion is "tiki" if the lizard is small, "tuko" if it is big. These terms are Visayan for the Philippine gecko.
