I wonder if back in the old days when life was simpler if as many people suffered from insomnia or is this brought on by todays pressures--one might argue that all periods of time in history had there problems so pressures are really the same--I suffer from periodic insomnia and blow it off to age but I do find it to really impact me the next day--so old or new for many this is a real problem

I experience insomnia when I was excited about the job interview or when have an examination test like medical and really felt so nervous to find out the result. So the night before it happen i could not sleep even i drink warm milk or try hard to go to sleep. Still, I could close my eyes but my mind wander i think about many things which i try not to think and it could not just stop. Everything around my house is quiet but still i could heard the small noise and keep looking on the clock.
So I think it is all brought by stress when i try to relax but I could not do. So the things i do is to learn to practice mind relaxation at the same time my body so i could be ready anytime that i face some sudden changes in my lie though ready or not, I just have no control than courageously face it. Over all all types of prescription or advices against insomnia works differ from every person needs and you just have to find out which best suits for you to relieve insomnia.

Everyone always speaks of the times "when life was simpler". Seriously, I just grabbed my breakfast out of the fridge. I didn't have to ever hunt it down and if I want to cook something, I could put it in the microwave and push a few buttons. I am one of those people you mentioned who would argue that all times had their problems.
I don't believe that insomnia has to do with "the modern times", but ego. Our mind is so full of worries, many of which don't really make any sense. I often experience insomnia the night before I have to do something stressful, such as a job interview or a test in school. Yoga and/or meditation before bed is helpful. Also, eating too late can cause it, especially depending on what it is you ate.
I do not believe that it has much to do with your age. Although if you are having any sort of back problems or if your bed is not right, that could be a factor. They also say that you should not do anything in your bed, like watch tv or read, before bed. This works on the idea of training your mind to associate bed with sleep.
I wish you luck.
Namaste.

I have had insomnia all my life! At least now we have the Internet to occupy our restless time. Before, it was really a severe mental problem just to pass the night! And as you get older, you really do need less sleep. I've only half a century or so of experience so ancient history is not in my cup of tea.
