How does technology make it easier for people?

When I was 20 years old it took one week to send a letter from England to Australia. Now I can send an email and my friend can get it in the new second. It is possible to have on-line messages that are just like having a conversation face to face. I think that the Internet helps people buy things from on-line shops. How do you think technology makes it easier for people? If you could get one more product for your home what would it be? How would it make life easy for you?

easier for people, yes; better for people? not necessarily. people now have their phones with them at all times and could constantly be bothered by work or harrased even and before we had technology, no one ever heard of identity theft.

technology is really not like talking face to face. you really miss the mannerisms of the person, even the sarcasm of the person when you are chatting online.

Yes, our children are now living in a very high technology and fast pace world. I would like to have technology where we can go/teleport in seconds, however... I think it is quite dangerous/risky. Everything can be done on-line now, more economically and fast.

You hit on the two biggest things. Communication and shopping. I love watching old TV shows and one of my favorites is "All in the Family". I remember Edith answering the phone and telling Archie to hurry to the phone "it's long distance!" in her high squeaky voice. LONG DISTANCE? What is that? I can call anywhere in the US for FREE and overseas for almost nothing using Skype. Remember "Get Smart" and the guy with the shoe phone. Haha. Now our phones are a fraction of THAT size. The other thing is information. It is great that I can go to BestBuy, scan a barcode with my phone, and find out that the product that I am looking to buy is 20% less across the street. Or if I want to wait for it, a LOT less online (no tax and free shipping). Convenience is another. I can sit on my butt and shop for something at JCPenny. Make the order and then go to the B&M store whenever I want to to pick up my purchase. (A lot of stores allow you to do this and used in conjunction with programs like MyPoints you can earn rewards 3X [MyPoints, Points for using a credit card that offers rewards, and rewards for online purchases).

Hi max! Technology makes my life more easier especially when it comes to communications. Thanks to skype and the internet, I'm able to communicate with my family in Japan. It will make me less worried because I can talk and see them anytime than to wait for snail mails. I can also purchase anything on the internet without queuing in lines. It technology helps me save time and money more, thus sometimes makes me lazy. Hahaha.. Happy mylotting!

Technology today is easier for people who have busy life and for businesses that wants a fast return of investment but did you notice that because of the growing technology today a lot of people becomes idle and unemployed, some are lazy to exercise the old fashion way because technology can do that without you doing anything. 10 years from now probably I'm just sitting on the couch watching my gadgets and robots do the things for me.

What I want to get is the Ninja1100 but it is not available in Canada and I do not know about the shipping and handling and the customs charges, plus there is the taxes we have to pay. We have the Ninja1000 here, but it is just a glorified blender and the Ninja1100 has a size for singles and couples, and different paddles, plus the regular blender size and the blades go up and down instead of just at the bottom so everything mixes good. Now since my regular blender is chipped, I have to get out my hand blend and have to position it over the stuff I want to blend and that seems to take forever.

Hi maximax8, Yes technology is really something else...lol...I can't keep up with it. I have seen a lot of changes over the years. I like ebay, but I don't shop online a lot; you have to be careful what you put online as far as your information, there are clever criminals out there, and is easy for identity theft. My sister had fallen victim to identity theft and it took her 2 years to straiten it all out.

Oh well, you are right. Because of technology everything has become easier and faster. As what you've said sending mails had been very quick now. Technology has made it easier for people to travel from one place to another -- airplane, speed trains and other vehicles that transport not just people but goods too for business and living. Technology has made it quicker and easier for people to connect -- meetings, reports, bonding with families/friends and even being updated to what is happening around the world -- being aware. Technology has made it easier for people to learn -- languages (online classes), other useful for living courses. And also for shopping. Actually there are a lot to detail .... of course there are a lot of advantages and disadvantages for a fast growing technology, we just have to learn to cope with the changes and not be stressed by the sudden inability to follow the new systems going on around .... hehehhe

Today communication is a lot easier and faster than it was in the past. I still remember the time when it took two weeks to send a letter from Denmark to New Zealand. Today I can send an email instead and it doesn't take a month or more to get a reply from my friend. I wrote many snail mail letters when I was younger, now I usually send an email instead. I also use the internet in many other ways: I have an online gallery, I buy things online, I participate in online discussions etc and I know that I would find it hard to go back to a life without technology.

Hi maxine, After Japan´s disaster and other terrible things I have heard (just yesterday, I learned of a new word here at mylot: karoshi, a japanese word that literally means dyeing from overwork) I have been questioning if technology is really making life easier for people. When I was small, we had few dresses which were washed by hand and we used aprons and learned not to soil them too much. We got toys for birthdays and Christmas and that was all. We lived in a house with wooden waxed floors and we were not supposed to play with water indoors. Grownups dis more work in one sense too, but we all led simpler, happer, less stressed, lives. Mail took a long while to reach it´s destination, but I took care to get the most beautiful stamps to put on the envelope. It was so meaninful that I found it to be an act of love. Now you receive chain that mean nothing everyday and your mail is mostly spam as love goes. Technology has made us change our axis (English?) from being to having. It is a shame. What importance gadgets have if you have noone to share it with? Life would be easier for me if the people nearer to my heart had more time to have a meaninful life instead of enslaving themselves to keep up with the new technology. And it is not that they want to have all, it is important for their jobs not to become obsolete as new tools go. Japan´s earthquake and tsunami will take a small toll as humanbeings go in comparison to the toll we can´t even imagine with the nuclear reactor disaster. That manmade disaster is possible because we are wanting new technology every day. HUG! I could go on forever on this subject.

I was just reminded of a Monty Python sketch - "When I was young, you could walk to Australia". Oops, sorry! Perhaps you are not old enough to remember that. Actually, we have missed out on the benefits of computers. The earliest home computers had the capability to turn on and off household appliances, lights, etc. By now, thirty years later, our whole home should have been computer controlled. But no! Microsoft didn't want that! The movie "Electric Dreams" was about a computer that had a mind of its own. Apart from the artificial intelligence part, all the other computer functions were real. You might be surprised what those old computers could do.

Technology also makes it easier for criminals to steal from us, with the development of credit cards came credit card frauds. Cyber criminals can rob a financial institution from the comfort of their own home. We got virus, worms and trojons designed to attack our computers. As these criminals have no need to show their face to commit crime like what it used to be, it becomes more difficult to catch them. In a way, technology makes life harder for the police.

Thats a simple question with a very complicated answer :) everyone will tell you that technology helps and makes it easier for everyone. thats true and its not. everything depends on us people. if you have to go to a place that is 30min walking and you have a car that will take you for 5min what will you choose? by choosing the car you go faster and this is good for you but bad for nature. we are gonna end this world by using too much technology even when we dont need to use it. the next product that i am goona get for my home is a new home :)

Right now I would love to have a dishwasher and something to vacuum my tiled house. It must be nice to whiz it around and not having to sweep out daily. I do have someone who comes once a week to scrub the floors and give the house a deep clean and I am grateful for that. I like being able to email people but it all plays hell with work as with a BB they expect me to on call 24/7 I have taken to bb'ing my family telling them that my phone will be off for the rest of the night Have not been around much these past few months. I do hope that all is well with you and your family.

Technology really makes people's lives easier in a lot of ways. And for me, the Internet contributes a lot and is actually my favorite innovation. It brings a huge amount of information to our fingertips. The availability of data about almost anything can be found in the Internet. It is simply very powerful. It gives us power. It connected the world, really a superb innovation. It definitely makes our lives easier. :)
