A lot of people I have met say that manga isn't an art because it is comics, just like the say with wester and other Eastern comics. And others say American comics are, just not Japanese, Korean or Chinese comics are. With these statements, I totally disagree. I believe that any for of comic is a form of art, no matter where it cam from because art is based off of ones interpretation, and I think that manga especially is beautiful.
What do you think? Is it an art form or am I wrong? Can I be wrong?

I believe that manga is an art form. Every mangaka has their own style of drawing and telling of their story. It's an expression of oneself after all. I think it just comes down to what an individual's interpretation of what art is. Just because one person doesn't think it's an art form doesn't mean it isn't.

Love it! Totally right! I want to be a mangaka so its hard in itself trying to develop a style itself. And alot of that comes from from what's on the inside and turning it into self expression.

Oh, you want to be a mangaka? That's really cool! Don't sweat when it comes to your own style, I'm pretty sure that you won't get it right off. Just keep on drawing and your style will evolve as time passes. I mean, just look at the artwork from various mangaka. Compare their earlier works to their recent ones and you'll notice the changes.

Yes I totally agree. I'm just practicing every chance I get.
When I look back at mangaka's artwork like Rumiko Takahashi or Yuu Watase, I just think how even more amazing they get with each volume.

Manga is a form of art. This is because the artist is the one who tells the story and they draw it out from their hearts and minds. I also have to disagree with those people who say manga is not a an art. If it's not an art, then there will be no drawings, just plain text showing in the pages of manga. However, manga could not also be depicted as a form of a real life human. Even though they have similarities like human moral, attitude and values, the difference between real life and manga is that manga is a fantasy of what people imagine. You are not wrong m friend. It's a form of art because it uses the artist's perception and imagination.

Sounds just about right to me.
Manga wouldn't be manga without art :)

personally i would consider it art. when it comes to art there's really no guild lines. I've seen some weird stuff that gets passed off as art, when it looks like a baby made it. so its hard to say that its not or is art. personally its a matter of opinion if its art. all i know is art is a form of self expression so most of those manga is art to me.

I think it all depends on what you consider art to be. In some cultures a comic may bery well be thought of as art. Art is what you make of it and not what everyone else tells you it is.

Personally speaking, I think that manga is an art. Art is all about creativity after all. And manga has some creativity. So I think it is an art. :]

To make such a straight distinction between art and comics is surely wrong; many comics are infact art. Of course some manga are bad enough not to be art, but it seems to me that this distinction is related more to the fact that lots of comics, manga or other, are too much comercial to be art. Some people, also, have this wrong presumption that comics cannot be art becouse comics are not serious stuff, becouse comics are made only to entertain and without some deeper message to deliver.
Like art has to be serious at all?
So, I agree with you, manga can be art, and some of manga are more than excellent art.

For me and art is the work which the author expressed themselves out. In any forms, painting, drawing, writing, poems or even food. As long as they shows true selfs of the authors out it is definitely an art for me. So I'd say that manga is definitely art work. :)
About right or wrong... I don't think you should judge it that way. Things like these depends on perspectives and opinions of each people. If you believes that it is art, then it is art for you.

Of course it is art! I certainly can't draw that well. Much of what I have seen in comic form (which is essential traditional manga) is much more complex than the old Marvel comics were. By the way, does America produce any comics today?
Animated manga is beyond belief! Look for a song called "Bad Apple" on the various "tube" sites and you'll see what I mean.
