Its not the computer is the ram card, video card and sound card you need to investigate. You need to look at the minimum requirements of the game. Then buy a soundcard, Videocard, and ram card that is above the minimum requirements, You know you can still use your current computer, you just need to replace certain parts to make it work.

just go to the computer store and ask them to upgrade your computer, show them the minimum requirement of the game you wanted to play and ask they to give you something higher. let the professionals do their job, on the other hand if you will buy a new computer, its the same thing, asked for sound cards, video card and ram card that can pass the minimum reguirement of the game. always make sure you are above the minimum requirement.

In my opinion it would be better if you could just build your own machine. It gives a lot of flexibility while choosing what you need and you can just scrap what you don't.
There are tons of websites which would give you ideas about how to do so.
But if you don't know much about hardware at all then there are choices like Alienware System. or even Dell XPS system.
Hope this helps.
Take care

well usually games tend to need a high end video card and high ram but ofcourse a good processor will do.
But i find it that the video card is really the first one to get old. My advice to you is to get a 4gb-8gb ram as a start. Then just reupgrade your other parts.

Firstly invest on a 256bit video card, nvidia graphic card uses SLI technology wherein you can connect two video card side by side working in tandem. (aint that great, two video cards connected as one) Simply -The wider the memory bus, the larger the GB/s throughput. from then on you would have to look for the motherboard that can handle two video cards.. I personally use MSi board. they are cheaper.
