Like mylot, facebook does sale our content or information in it to third parties about which most facebook users unknown the fact! The main difference between facebook and mylot is- Mylot pays us for our contents in it with permission but facebook does the same thing without our knowing or permission. Such as our updated status is checked by third party and distributed it if its liked by majority or its an popular one. When I am using an application, I automatically permit to view all my facebook information. There are also so many hackers in facebook so far we came across. I know there is a privacy or security option in facebook, still it does not help to prevent leakage of our information. Isn't it? What do you think mylotters. Please share your views regarding facebook privacy or leakage of our private information.

I'm not surprised. This is why I don't put personal information up on FB. I have two accounts and both accounts I use a fake name and I did not include any personal info like age, address whatever could identify me. I also used a junk email account that is separtate from my main account. There is already too much info out there about me they don't need to get any more.

Yes, I also do this but problem is now I cant use fake information due to keep in touch with my old friends as they will become confused. However, I try not to give much detail or confidential information for security purpose. Anyway, thanks a lot for your response dreamy1 :-)

I sent a message telling them who I was so they won't get confused about who it was that sent the request because they didn't recognize the name.

Exactly.... even if we agree a term, do that really mean it what it says... I think no! Yes, there is still no other sites which better off facebook in case of social networking. Even if there is other good online social networking sites, it will not also guarantee seucured one! Thank you taugoCOM for your words :-)

Hi. rmnrmn. I have heard that Facebook was doing this. I go by an user name that is very unique. It is in no relation to my real name on Facebook. I have also deleted any game applications that I have not been playing too. As far as Facebook selling our information is concerned, I think that this is very wrong. Our private and personal information should not leave Facebook's site for no other reason than what it is intended for.

Though hackers cannot do physical hampers, hijacker hackers can do it. Mind it. For instance, you updated your status that "I am going for luxury shopping" which might a useful hint for hijackers or hackers to follow you. Anyway, Thank you for your comment :-)

That makes me want to get off facebook. I don't think they should be allowed to do that without our knowledge. I have trouble understanding why people aren't protected on the internet at all? I would have never thought by getting on facebook I would be risking anything. I think of people like my mother who goes out of her way to not give anyone personal information and she is on facebook and has no clue this is happening. I think there should be laws so people understand the risk and can be willing to accept or not accept it.

I agree with you misc11. But the problem is there too. In fact all the privacy and security measures also takes help of leaking information according to its preference basis :D ha ha... more privacy mean to attract more hackers into it. Thanks misc11 for your comment :-)

rmnrmn, In the first place, Facebook does not really have to sell the information on their site because it is already an open book without any privacy customization settings from the users. It is also a fact that Facebook along with other social networking sites has been a source for criminals to target their victims. So, as long as the user does not go through the trouble of securing personal details access and befriends unconditionally will simply be asking for trouble. Leaks are prevalent but people just need to careful and meticulous with their disclosure.

I don't really put too much private information so not really worried about it. As any online user with any site we must be careful what we put if we do not want it to be public. I have been a user, although not to constant, for about 3 years and have no worries with it.
