Just recently, our company hired a Japanese Marketing Manager in the hope of getting Japanese accounts. Is it really in Japanese culture to limit their trust on their Japanese folk?

the more you bow, the good it is .. i think
japanese like to have a dinner with his/her collegues in work
i think in your case, japanese tend to be individual for some reason, finding a job in japan is difficult and everyone compete with each other to have a bigger conribution in company.
i think it takes sometime to gain a trust from your marketing manager.

Japanese is such a kind of nations who are careful for their own things ,my teachers who gave my Japanese lesions really trust some people they are familiar with , so don't be confused about it , he will show his trust to you while he get familiar with you .

I think it is gard for anyone to trust people anymore no matter what culture they are from. It does not have to mean only the people who tell the truth or lie either. It could be the quality of ones product or background as well.
