To my fellow Catholic Filipinos, do you still think that Philippines is the Catholic light in Asia? Of course, no one is claiming self-righteousness here. It is just that, i think Catholism here is just in quantity.. but when it comes to quality... i think sadly no. There are those who line up for communion but there is really no telling if they are in the state of grace to do so. There are many who would like to confess direct to God via the polluted air instead of going to a priest. It is Holy Week again. There are many who hits Boracay not for meditation but for a night life. Many are not being true and sincere with the Catholic faith practices.
So.. what do you think?

I still hope so that we're still the Catholic Light in Asia. I agree with you that people who line up for communion, there are people who came in late who haven't heard the gospel and homily who fell in line. There are also some who went to church but don't listen to the mass, all they do is talk about other church goers. Sad to say, but there are still lots of Catholics who went to mass but don't practice Catholics beliefs. I agree with you that this Holy Week, people went to Boracay just to have fun, slowly we are losing that tradition of Lenten Season, sad but its true...

I always strive hard not to be late when hearing a mass. When I am late sometimes I will just wait outside until another mass begins. You are orrect, some people especially lovers just go to mass and sit and talk rather than hearing the gospel. :( Sadly they dont give respect to the ceremony :(

i my self is a catholic from Indonesia, and i find that filiphines is the biggest catholic populate in south east asia .. or even asia it self.
to tell the truth, yes, indeed the quality of individual is needed but to stay as one in the family is where everyone find the most.
do your best for your family and stand godly in every way you do for people.
i`m just giving my voice as a catholic

I believe that we Catholic Filipinos has been to free from our faith. Most of us see Holy Week as vacation time rather than time to reflect. I am not saying that there are no more conservatives out there that still practice the art of reflection and sacrifice this week, because there are still are.
I think the media is the one at fault here, it asks about questions like "where will you take your vacation and what will you do with your free time?". They unknowingly instill this to the viewers' minds that it is a good thing to go to the beach and the like.
If not, they would show scenes of the extremely devoted punishing themselves with whips and crosses, which really gives a negative connotation to children about what holy week really is. I believe that they should concentrate more on awareness about what really is this time all about.
