70 is better than 60

When I turned 60 I was in bad shape, I had ignored my body, I allowed stress to take over and rule my life. So on my 60th BD I made a promise to fix what I could. The Doctors had found multipule illnesses all of which could kill me. Well I figured I'd die of something someday. But I was firm in my plan to get the very best I could out of my body. First came diet, then Yoga, next came tapping to relieve my emotional turmoil. It was a long hard path, with life throwing many hurdles in my way, but I did it and even my Doctors agree. The thing is your mind is a wonderful thing and if I could do this you can also. It doesn't matter what age you are.

Kudos to you! I am coming up on the big 6-0, but I have always tried to maintain an active lifestyle. I seriously took up weight training in my 40s when I noticed I was slowing down and the ol' body just wasn't responding like it used to. I am soooo glad I did, because *knocking on wood* I can still keep on keeping on. No health probs. No meds. Now if I could just get rid of this one little pesky monkey on my back -- smoking. (sigh) You're never too old to change your lifestyle and the quality of your life. It just depends on how bad you want it.

Hi savypat, I agree age doesn't matter and at 71, I don't feel old. How can I as I am the baby of the family and have two brothers and a sister all older than me! Blessings.

Thanks a lot for this post, savypat! There are many of us here that need to read the words you just wrote. I´m almost 66, quit smoking after over 50 years 3 years ago and many times I think that if I could do that I can do any thing. The trouble is that I´m lazy. I suppose I´ll have to get a new starter. Happy posting!

Yes, we can always make improvements with ourselves. Using motivation, determination and persistenly working towards our set up goals. I'm working on myself to regain strength in my body. It goes slowly forward. but I still have these thoughts : Is it worth it? Then I continue to try to grow stronger and healthier. I give you my whole hearted congratulations to you for your hard successful work!

I am fifty eight, but have already started on some return to health. I know it is working, because people I had not seen in months commented on it. I had very long lived grandparents, even the sickly one was around 80, others lived to be close to 100 or past 100,and there is no reason I should not. Pat,your sound mind is what I admire the most in you.

That's inspiring! I just turned 57 and have been thinking about becoming aggressive about my health but wondered it if was worth it this late in life. Well, you've had some good years after deciding to "fix" yourself so I guess I'll try it, too!

..Hi there savypat, What an inspiring post, you are to be commended on the great progress that you have made. It is a tough battle to do the things that we need to do to make our physical health better, which in turn should help to make our mental health better as you have done. It is my belief that, as you have noted in essence, whereever you are in life it is possible to take control and be successful in what you need to do. It is not about a number, it is all about your mental state and what you want to do to make it reality. Former Governor Huckabee was told by his doctor as I heard it, that he was going to die in ten years if he didn't change things in his life. He went to work and lost just about half his body weight, put his diabetes in remission and is now in a better place in his life. That is also inspiring, it can be done. Thank you so much for your post. It is well worth remembering. It's not about a number, it's about life and how we view it. Take good care.

hi pat, just asked my mother if 70 is better than 60 when I read your post, and she said it could be true cause she had most of her illnesses and operations at age 60. My mom is a lady pastor ( they allow that in the congregation she attends) and also teaches in her church and she told me that to reach age 70 up is already a grace from god ( sorry if some may not agree), anyway so glad and happy for you friend, my mom also has a very clear mind like my late grandma, they can tell vivid stories about World war II, and can even recite the names of all her classmates in elementary in their province, she even rode a plane to attend her high school reunion a few years back and told me how surprised she was to see her classmates and they were surprised that she age d the least among all of them, hope it runs in the genes friend and I could be like both of you
