It does not matter what we use to look up things online, search engines are a huge part of our life. One could argue that they are in fact the backbone of the Internet. The chances are that we would be unable to find anything are rather slim. Therefore, I think it could be safe to say that there would not be much of an Internet without search engines.

Yeah. Search engines are very useful, but they can make students very lazy as well. But i guess that is their privilege as part of this generation! Haha

I see what you're saying and I kind of agree, but I also disagree. If you had two briefcases, one each with a million dollars, one hanging above a huge ladder and the other briefcase right on the ground at your feet, which one would you take? Of course you'd take the one at your feet. Its simple human nature to take the easiest path. At least search engines are being used to learn something. I could get into a rant that if the textbooks were organized a bit better, there might not be as much of a need for students to use them but that is another rant, for another time. Still there are many benefits that search engines have made. Then again, as far as inventions that have made people lazy, they are fairly low on the grand scale of things. After all, without remote controls, people would have to get up and change the television stations. Still its already a part of life and we're much better for it. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi megamatt, I will absolutely 100% definately agree with you in that search engines are a huge part of our lives. No matter what we don't need to do much work to find what we need, and also i love that so much information is given and we have so many options available due to these search engines. If it wasn't for these search engines then i would agree that it certainly would be difficult to find what we need, as we would really need to know the exact address o the website, atleast with a search engine we are able to just put in a few words and get many many options. The search engines are extremely important when it comes to using the internet, certainly does make life much easier and also allows us to have many choices. I really would be lost without these.

Very good point. Unless we knew the exact website, we would never know anything. And just think about how many things that have been found with the help of the search engine. Just typing in a few simple phrases, will get you what you need especially if you know where to work. Therefore, search engines are extremely important in that sense. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Yeah most people are going to use search engines a lot of the time. I think that the vast majority of us at least make a token search for something most days. Then there are times where we are just going to really search for a lot of things online that are valuable. Without them, we lose a great deal of what makes the Internet, the Internet, at least in this day and age. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

No. The Internet can still go on without these monster search engines. Remember those link exchanges of the olden days? If it weren't for the Internet, we would be spending time scourging the web through the links displayed on each websites we visit. That's the hard alternative to search engines.

Bit before my time. So I'll take your word for it. Still I doubt that since search engines have been ingrained into our lives, it will be hard to go back. Then again, the Internet was not as vast as it was at one point. When we started forward, it would take something to really go back. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Very true. What is there to discuss? It would be better to discuss "browsing" because that is something we never actually do! It isn't like we are browsing in a gift shop or something, and we just happen to come across something interesting. Finding something by chance is impossible!

Finding something, especially what we want, is going to be a one in a trillion chance. That might be understating it to say the very least. There is really no way to find anything you need. In the end, search engines are the lifeblood of the Internet, the backbone, and what builds the foundation of this wonderful web that we surfed. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
