When you have a hard time sleeping what things do you do to help you to eventually get back to sleep? Lately, I have been having a hard time sleeping. I've been trying to go to sleep later but then I still tend to wake up at 3am. I usually have tried to read something, drink something light like tea or something to help me feel more relaxed. Anything special you do to help you have a better night's sleep?

I think relaxing is not the solution. try to work with the lifting of a burden. I mean the move using you're muscles.I've heard that the fatigue caused by muscle fatigue can help a person to sleep soundly.

Those are good things. I think a lot of the time we need to get our body to relax and not think about the many things that are happening or going on in our lives. This will help us to be able to sleep.

I think drinking a warm glass of milk helps me sleep. I also have a hard time sleeping sometimes, because I am used to sleeping late so if I try to sleep earlier I can't sleep at all. So I try to relax, I tried counting once- didn't work..I ended up counting until a few hundred. I just close my eyes and empty my mind.. then sleep

If I can’t sleep, I usually play Sudoku on my cellphone or read a pocket book. I sometimes just lay in bed, close my eyes and dream about my dream house. In this process, I find myself eventually sleeping.

If I can't sleep I either take some nyquil, that'll really get me sleeping for at least a couple of hours. Or I stay up watching some t.v for a couple of hours and that usually gets me sleepy or yawning, which is the first steep of sleepiness. That's it, there's really nothing I else I do to make sure I fall asleep.

What I find for myself is that after a hard day of school and work, by the time I make it home, I am exhausted, so I head straight to bed. I do find that doing this, I end up waking up in the middle of the night, but what I do is do one thing before I go to bed, so I won't have to worry about it the next day, but I do that one thing with a glass of milk so that way I have enough time to drink the milk. A normal person might drink a glass of milk, but I am not human, for I can easily mess around and drink an entire jug before I go to bed, but I sleep the entire night, and not get sick. Ironically, even though I fill my stomach up with milk, I wake up hungry in the morning.

i just surf net and post messages on mylot. This is the best way to kill time. Other than that I read books. Reading will strain your eyes and it helps to get sleep more quickly. If I have some one to spend time, I just share some nice moments with them. Anyway all this happens very rarely when I am completely disturbed.

That's not often be my problem since I'm the type that easily sleep, but there's also times that I can't sleep and here's what I do to get to a nice sleep. 1. Like you said, have some drinks to help you relax. Warm drinks tends to be better than the cold one. Here's what works for me : Warm/Cold tea, Warm milk, Cold and fresh fruit juices. 2. Listen to music before go to sleep. Any songs that you feel nice and relax are okay. 3. Read books (especially boring books work great, might even get you sleep before you knew it. haha) 4. Write a diary, no I don't write it every day, just for the day that I feel stress about something and feels like I should release it out, so I write it in a diary. Also make sure that you don't drink or eat anything with caffeines or lots of sugar in it in 3-4 hours before go to sleep. And make sure to go to toilet before heading to your bed. Don't know if any of this will help, but I wish it helps.

I usually read. It usually works pretty well, unless the book is too good. A slightly boring book helps you fall asleep the best :)

tea is like coffee, it contains caffeine which makes you stay up, way past your bedtime :). Whenever i have trouble sleeping, i take a shower 4 hours before my bedtime and read some boring book, else when it doesnt work i count from 1-100 and backwards :D

I listen some music that brings me good feelings, I close my eyes and I try to relax. But sometimes I can't sleep not even with music, so I have to rise and I take a bath or watch some movie until I'm feeling sleepy again. I have problems for sleep every night... :(

Ever try sleeping to music or perhaps turning on a documentary with a monotonous voice on low? Sleeping to music, I usually recommend something soft like piano music or those sleeping aids that have natural sounds to them. My husband has an app on his iPhone that does it. Wish I remembered what the app is called but I'm sure searching for a sleep aid app or program on the computer could give you results. During nights I can't sleep and actually want to force myself to sleep (normally I just sit there awake until I finally pass out of exhaustion, I don't recommend this though.) I use the program and turn it to turn off during a certain time. It puts me right to sleep. As far as the documentary suggestion, it's something I usually do for naps that can probably work at night depending on what's on the history channel or some other channel during those hours.
