Any Advice for Newbie Half-Marathoners?

My friend and I have recently decided to train for a half-marathon. We're pretty new to the whole exercising thing. I mean, we exercise every now and then, but not extensively. We're starting out running a mile every other day, and doing strength training on the off days. Any advice for us? We don't really know what we're doing, but we really want to get in good shape to run a half-marathon and to be in good shape for the summer. :)
