I observed most of the students are not paying much attention towards their studies and always busy in chatting, playing games on computer, watching television. Anyone can share whats the reason behind this.
I think it's not always the student's mistake the parents also should be careful but the kids still should study as much as they can. This is the parents duty to find out the reason why that they are not paying attention to studies.
Parents should advise them not to waste their precious time in such kind of things. If teachers are irritating on them & they are not enough confident to ask these problems from their teachers. Share your views my friends what you think which reason behind this.

Maybe one of the reason why students do not pay much attention to their studies is that they get bored with books and bored with teachers way of teaching. I remember Jacky Chan's line in one of his movies he said "there are no bad students, only bad teachers".

Hmmmmmmm friend this is your own experience hahaha but even the teacher is bad the student duty was to ask the question if they not understand and teacher not give the answer then they can complaint near principal.
I am also a teacher but I tell my all students if you not understand any topic then ask me again and again I will not annoyed on you.

I don't think students or parents for the most part really value an education. It's just something that has to be done. Kids don't understand it's their ticket to a profitable life on some level. Parents use school as a baby sitter and do not put enough emphasis on succes. But school is where kid's work ethics and habits are formed...it's scary really.

That's what I was saying - the children must see that the parents value that education by their support. You are correct that parents need to be more involved in the student's school work - plus they forget that they are the child's main teacher in life and they must raise them to be learners. Like taking them to places that will teach them (no pizza joints!!) the zoo, science museums and things like that..

No friend parents is also responsible for less attention of their child because their duty was to ask the child what to you do today in you school and check what homework is today at least till 10th class.
If students or child waster his/her time only for watching TV or playing game they can close it. Both teachers and parents are responsible for students study.

Hi there surekharathi!!!
I think students will have to learn proper time management and they should know their priorities. When I was still in college my teacher in algebra said that before he study his lessons,he will first do whatever he wanted to do.After doing this things he then proceed with studying his lessons. In this way he will not rush his self and think of other things while studying coz he already do it.
The thing that my teacher said have been carved to my mind and I decided to follow this kind of technique.I really can't study well and focused if I didn't play games first,so what I am doing is I will play first then proceed with my studies. Now I am finally a bachelors degree holder I think the technique works...

It is true that more and more students nowadays are addicted to other things and not to their studies. However, there are still a lot of students that knows the consequences of not studying properly or not paying attention to studies. There are factors though why students nowadays neglect their studies, and these are friends, vices and lifestyle. It all depends on the student's view and how their mindset works. If the student knows that he/she is currently in the brink of failing or dropping out, this could cause a serious trouble to the parent's. Students nowadays should be more independent and should learn the harsh realities of life early in the stage of life.

Yes, it's true that some parents do not take consideration to what will happen in the future. This may eventually lead to more problems in the future. Who knows what will happen to the poor students right? Imagine the fact that they are once students in class and in the end, they are unemployed or their jobs are not that good. It's my pleasure friend! Thank you!

As a parent you can only help your child as your child want to be helped....I had 4 children and I had to work outside the home so I put on them the responsability to do well in school...of course I would supervise their home work when they were young but when they went to high school I just told them this is your future it's up to you to do your best...and some times I was asked to sign a note to the teacher because they did not want to work in some subject? I said no...you go on and explain to your teacher why you did not do it...some times I felt guilty but at the end of the day I was just teaching them to be responsible for their own acts!. Today they are all grown up...all went to university and they are successful in their own careers!

Well i think there is only one reason to it, they have no idea what lies ahead.
If only they knew. For kids realization is the most important thing in the learning process.
So they aren't going to study without an aim and they can't have an aim if they have no interest in their future. Either make them realize, else sit back and watch the show go down. :p

Yes friend aim is necessary in life but till 10th the child or student not know about it. So the parents and teachers can help them the students for go ahead and for better future. Thanks for sharing your view

Hi surekharathi,
So true for some, they simply find it convenient to use the wonderful technology today in which some do not learn to balance them between their studies. Studying is so important because they are molding their path to a brighter future.
Depending on their age parents definitely have to set a set of rules to assure studying is prioritized. When a child does not learn to balance he/she is not aware of the unbalance nature.
It is never too late, but in my opinion parents need to remove some privilege from their children as soon as they notice that the child is not prioritizing their education/studies.

Yes friend todays due to new technology students are not paying much attention towards their studies because of the advanced media, facilities of internet and television in every home and the wide use of mobile phones.and except studies children are involved in all types of activities.
I agree with you parents should pay attention on their child and spend some time to asking about their study and homework and schools activity thanks to your valuable response.

I was a student too once in my life. I suppose most of us went through those student days doing pretty much the same things that the present day students doing, naming having fun chatting, playing games, dating girls and lastly studying.
Looking back, may be it would have been better if I have concentrate more on my studies, but I think I don't regret what I did when I was young. It make my life more complete. I was growing up as a whole person, not just a book worm.

It is true that now a days there are lot of teenager who are addicted to our technology. Especially to computer games and internet.
We cannot control new technologies coming out but we can guide our kids on how to use them properly. Proper guidance from a parents is more important. One example it while watching movie why don't we see what they are watching in here we can understand why they are not studying. We must find ways on how to engage our children in studying like you and your child will study together, help him/her out. Some children and students get tire of studying because when they don't know their assignment or their topic they tend to not study. So a help from someone is needed.
A teacher must also be attentive and be sensitive to the feelings of their student because sometimes student are shy to ask some questions. Sometimes good communication with their student is very important.
Students should also be engage and different sport so they will exercise their minds. Again a family is needed. That's all ans happy mylotting;)

Nice response thanks to a lot and student should know if times is gone once it never come again because it is like a river you cannot touch the same flow of water twice. Parents attention is also necessary.

Well, I understand you are talking about young students. It's clear to understand why the are not interested in studies. Tv shows, to go in internet or chatting is most interesting than studying. I think parents must insist with their children in taking care of their studies, but teachers too must to stimulate boys and girls in having a good approach in studying.

They're losing focus because of the distractions of media, boredom plus the fact that their parents doesnt kn0w that their n0t paying attention to studies. Parents can actually check their children with regards to studying. They could help their child by providing a good studying environment, giving rewards and most importantly is to teach the kids about time management. Time management is another factor. Say a kid enjoyed playing games on pc and hes t0o excited to level up. Surely the kid will n0t n0tice or care what time it is as l0ng as hes g0ing to reach his goal. If a child learns to set time for studying and leisure, he could learn to prioritze things. He could limit and balance his hours. Of course parents should guide them in managing their time

I disagree. Sure, more students need to spend more time studying, but overall most people would be less happy if they did nothing but study. Life isn't just about school or else we would never stop. We only have one youth, let some of it be spent of the fun things, but some of it be spent on responsibility too. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd hate to put off at least having a little bit of fun when there's no guarantee I'll live to see tomorrow.

I totally agree with you makiba...the secret word there is "BALANCE" balance the priorities, balance the time and balance everything. However, the problem with some people is that they do not know what this word means. They do not keep the balance; say some of them put on 20% study and 80% Internet activities. It should have been the other way around. The student furthermore, needs to balance the development of him/herself by engaging in activities other than studying keeping in mind that everything should be in balance...

hi surkharathi I think some of it h as to be directed to parents who are not really pay ing all that much attention to their childrens
school work .Perhaps as in most families with the US economy so
bad both parents must work. but still they have to keep an eye on
their kids school work and also have to train children to obey rules and directions, not flout them like so many do. discipline should start early and be consistent with their teachings and their reprimands. not abusive at all but not permissive either.
I feel all parents should start very early to imbue a love of reading in their children.now days the boob tube seems to crowd out the love of reading.but kids show that if they learn to read at home then in school their grades will be much higher and they will be eager to learn new things. Most kids have natural curiosity and eagerness to learn before parents and teachers seem to act to squelch it out instead of encouraging it.Parents themselves who love to learn new things and are always reading and visiting museums and art galleries and libraries do encourage children to be curious and eager to learn new things all the time.

I agree on your point that students should study as much as they can and should improve their skills and abilities. However, parents and teachers should also understand that students also have needs and interests that in a student's opinion or view is more interesting than studying. Some parents and teachers should also understand this side of 'growing up'. Beating them into studying won't help; instead, students would most likely resist if the adults try to brown nose them or 'illegalized' their vices.
A good compromise between studies and leisure should do the trick, not suppressing the other for other's benefit. Besides, the primary concern should be the student
and not the activity.

I'm a student and I must say that I TOTALLY AGREE. I am really busy with other things like maybe computer games. Well, in my case, I'm more addicted *earning online*. I am even a moderator in another PTP forum and I'm getting 30$ a month. Not bad. But because of this, I sometimes feel like I'm neglecting my studies which is definitely not good.

even you are doing your best as parent, the peer pressure outside the kids home are taking them far from their studies and it is really so hard to handle them since the fun and excitement with their friends are aggressively taking them away from the conservative approach of their parents with their upbringing. They can not see the truth in their parents way of protecting them. The technology trend today gave so much confidence to many of teenagers that they can easily be reached even at very late night and so they are not even afraid to roam around in darkness.

You know surekharathi, this is also my observation to students' behaviours and attitudes toward learning. Nowadays, students tend to be very attached to computers and the things that they can get from it (fun). Name all the activities in the web, we have DOTA, Counterstrike, Diablo, Facebook, Twitter, Friendster, and many more. These give them the satisfaction that they need. However, it sacrifices an essential element in their lives and that is their studies. They are out of focus due to these Internet games and all. What is more, this is the greatest and gigantic enemy of teachers in school...during class hours, students minds are flying elsewhere..imagining that they are already playing in the net.. Planning strategies on how to defeat their foes in the game.
However, this reality should not quiver the teachers' enthusiasm in teaching. Hence, we should take this as a challenge. A challenge of making it a possibility of brining the 'fun' and 'entertainment' that students get from the net inside the classroom. Is it realistic and possible? I think so! This is where the creative juices of the teachers are put to test. All the more, teachers should be creative and experiment inside the classroom so as to get back the interest of the students in studying and learning.
Parents on the other hand, have the responsibility of rearing their children. They have a greatest responsibility in disciplining their children and imparting to them the importance of studies. Parents further can make compromise if ever the "hobby" of their children cannot be helped. Comprise is another way of saying that, parents understand the fad and the trend of today's generation without sacrificing the most essential thing - i.e. their studies.
