The pursult of lasting happiness has long been a subject of interest for scientists and surveys alike.
But what makes us really happy and what lasting benefits does happiness have?
Well, earlier this month, scientists from the University of Illinois found the people who are happy and positive about life live longer.
The researchers found "clear and compelling evidence" that happiness is key when it comes to better health and longer lifespans.
Last month a British study, which tracked members of 40,000 households across the country, concluded that eating a family meal at least three times a week is the key to happiness because it helps build a strong bond between parents and their children.
Money makes the world go round, but it is not the key to happiness, according to other studies. In 2008,a survey from the Office for National Statistics found that British families were healthier and twice as well off as they were 20 years ago,but are no happier. However, other studies have found money can buy you happiness after all,but only if you spend it wisely.Indeed, that might be why a good holiday can boost your happiness levels "for up to two months" after - although the break has to be "very relaxing" to have such an effect.

whoa! hi pengyachu :) thanks for citing some studies in this discussion. this is a classic question of whether or not money can buy you happiness. Despite the studies, people do have different opinions regarding this. Some attribute happiness with wealth while some may think differently. However, i think of happiness as being able to do what i do best, that is teaching, writing and politics and at the same time help my family--. that is happiness for me :)

Happiness comes from a positive attitude towards life.A healthy body also contributes to one's happiness.Happiness also comes from the awareness of the moment.

I've always thought that the number factor for happiness was money. Now you're saying that eating a family meal three times a week accounts for much of our happiness. Well, that can be true, but I still think that money has a lot to do with people's happiness. Case in point is when we get paid by this site, we all feel happy, right? So money does make people happy anytime, anywhere.

Happiness comes from myself,my family and my friends. If I think everything is nice,it is nice.If I think I am happy,I just get the happiness.Sometimes your ideas decide your mood.We should trust each other, sustain eath other and comprehend each other, then we will feel happiness.
Though we have much money, but if we don't have a nice body,we have nothing, money can't do everything.

Hmmm... I think that without job, lots of debts, a mortgage, a mediocre house, not so many to eat everyday, no new clothes or shoes when you're in need, many problems related to money and not even some money to escape somewhere for some days to forget all the problems and be happy at least for a while, you can't be really happy. Who said the money can't makes you happy? I would like to see the wallets of that happy and positive about life people.
