Elizabeth Sladen, one of the Doctor's companions, and one of the fan's favorite companions, passed away.

because I'm having massive computer problems right now, I can't actually access the site, I can't actually access many sites right now, but one of the few I can is Twitter and that's where I first heard the news.
Since I don't see a discussion, but I may have missed it, I thought I would start one to alert other Whovians of this sad news.
I know Sarah Jane was one of my favorite companions. I enjoyed the Sarah Jane Adventures that the Beeb has been doing.
So, did you like Sarah Jane if not, who was/is your favorite companion?

Oh my God, I'm genuinely shocked by this sad news and there was no mention of it on Sh*te News either..unless I missed it.
She's only a couple of years younger than my Mum.

I don't think John knows as he's gone to bed and never mentioned it (they're all banned from using the internet at work) as I bet he would've told me about it if he knew.

How sad! I never got to see her except in her 2006 appearance in School Reunion--it was on some old episodes recently--and she had K9 with her. I remember K9 from the Tom Baker days, I believe Romana was his companion then. If her series comes on BBC America I'll be sure to watch it. I did like what I saw of her character in that one episode.
I couldn't choose a favorite companion as I started watching when Baker was Dr and stopped when he was in the role, too. I only recently caught up with the new series with David Tennant, recently taken over by what's-his-name...Matthews?! I haven't bonded with the new doctor yet but I do like Amy Pond.

Sarah Jane was the Doctor's companion when I first watched Dr. Who with Tom Baker in 1978-79 when I was in Ames, IA. My apartment only had broadcast TV then and there were only 4 channels. Dr. Who came on at 10PM on PBS opposite the local news and was usually more entertaining than the news. I thought it was grat after all those years that they gave her her own show. The Sarah Jane Adventures was, I thought, a great show for both adults and children. I only wish that the Sy Fy channel or BBC America would have shown more of the series than they did. Elisabeth Sladen (correct spelling of first name) will be missed.

I wish they would have made a bigger deal about this on BBC America. A marathon of classic episodes would have been a perfect tribute. She barely even got a mention over here. She was the best.
