Do you mind changing your baby in the public bathroom?

I never changed my baby in the public changing station in the bathroom, I think it is filthy... I change him in my car. I do bring some towels just in case I have to have to change him in the public place so at leastI can put a towel down on the station for him. I'm thinking about it is what I'm gonna have to do when I fly in a couple of months at the airport and on the plane... I don't think people will appreciate if I change him onthe seat or on the bench at the airport...(Have you ever done that before???) Does anybody know if the changing station is tiny or not on the plane as far as the US airline?

I never change baby if I can help it in a public restroom. I also change my child in the car. It is a lot more sanitary then the bathrooms. I don't think that anyone will have a problem with you changing your child if need be on the plane, or on a bench. And you know what, its kind of like so what if they do. If they stare or what not, its not like you are ever going to see these people again. The plane that I was on didn't actually have a changing station that I can remember. It is hard enough for one person to maneuver in a tiny area like that let alone trying to change a child, so you best bet may be to change him descretly in your seat if possible. Best of luck.

I have read peple actually put a blanket down on the floor on the pane and just change their baby on the floor. I think for people has not been a family stage yet would mind.

I don't blame you for not wanting to use the baby changing station no matter where it is!!! They have to be NASTY!!! I'm a female with no baby & I can tell you that it doesn't bother me to see a mother changing her baby's diaper on a bench especially since you carry a towel to put under him!!! I'd whole lot rather see you changing him on the bench than see a diaper full of poo being ignored by the Mother!!! I have seen Mothers change their baby in their lap so they know their baby is safe!!! Now, if you didn't carry a towel to protect the area where you're cleaning him, I might see that as a problem!!! It's been a while since I've last flown, but I don't remember a baby changing station in the bathroom. However, not being a Mother of an infant, I wasn't looking for one either & I might have just not noticed it because it was folded up & not in my way!!!

I wonder what other people think about seeing the moms change the diaper in public like that. I wouldn't mind now that I have become a mom because I understand the moms don't want their baby to besuffered in the pile of poop but what about the non-mother people. It will be nice to everybody like you that doesn't mind it but I thinkmajority of the people doesn't like it and thinks it is nasty. I would definitely clean up afterwards if I change him in public like that.

I hope it's your imagination that it bothers that many people!!! It might make them feel a little uncomfortable, but to find it nasty is ridiculous!!! Personally, I think it is nastier to leave a baby in a wet or soiled diaper than to change him in public!!! My great aunt wouldn't go to the bathroom if anybody could hear her pee. I found that to be senseless!!! There are certain bodily functions that are going to happen whether we like it or not!!! To me, a baby going in its diaper is just one of those natural facts of life!!!

I have no idea if there is a place on a plane or not we have not been on a plane with our kids ever. I would say if your son is able to stand learn to change him while he stands up, it's alot easier and you don't need to worry about needing a changing station.

Hi mermaidivy, Like you I too was very conscious as to where I would change my baby. I had a special diaper changing mat I would put on the surface of changing tables. I too at times prefer to go back to the car and change my babies diaper because of convenience and or hygiene purposes. I remember American Airlines had a changing table as I remember it, it was scrubbed and sanitized between flights. I did check online and saw American Airlines still does have the baby changing table. If in the event a plane did not have one I would ask a stewardess if I could change the baby in a back seat where it was somehow away from all the passenger and of course provided that there were vacant seats. I am sure they would accommodate somehow. If however there was not one available I would use my lap to do it because duty calls and baby in my opinion can't wait to be cleaned. I checked online and American Airlines still has the changing table.

Oh thank you, I'm hoping the plane won't be so full so I can do that, have heard the changing station on the plane is real small... I remember it was small the last time I flew.

hhmmm... not really. well, not unless the bathroom is less crowded. i'd rather change him in the bathroom rather than in the public area such as benches and fast food table (i have seen many mothers do it). but of course i do the bath room changing thing on the baby bed and not on the tiles or on the sink. hehe

Really? Maybe I never notice, I have heard people really hate seeing that but now I have become a mother, I would do what I have gotta to do for my baby if changing him on the seat is necessary. When I was out one time at the mall, he pooped, I wanted to change him in the food court but I didn't think it was right so we headed back to the car in the lot to change him.

I changed my kids in the public bathroom, but I had a changing pad. I would wash the changing pad when i got home. I assume you use a changing pad or blanket when changing your child on a seat or bench? Just some interesting info for you. A study was done on chairs in theatres and they found poop residue. There are germs everywhere. So your using a changing pad for the seat or bench, its really no different than the changing table in the bathroom. Just make sure you wash up when done.

That's true that germs are everywhere... maybe the changing station is in the bathroom, so it sounds dirty. I still wouldn't prefer changing my baby in those seat, that's why I change him in my car.

In airports they usually have rest rooms with baby changing mats in. On the plane the toilet has a tiny fold down changing table. I told the airline about needing to do my disabled son's catheter. They let me do it at the end of the plane in the cabin crew area. My disabled son is almost age four and he nearly brings the changing mat off the wall.

I dont like having to change my son on the changing tables but its easier then doing it in my van. I used to carry a blanket to put on it when I changed him but I dont do it anymore. My mother helps take care of my neice and nephew and all the years they were in diapers and out in public she refused to use public restrooms.

It is not so convenietn to change myson in the car but I prefer doing that instead in a public changing station that everybody uses.

I use to bring along a small blanket when i used those changing tables. Somepeople can be so thoughtless about cleaning up after themselves. Leaving it messy for the next person.

Some people are just plain nasty in public restrooms. Not just the baby stations. Maybe they are that way at home too.

I think that you should use public bathrooms. They're quite clean. I used them when I must travel. Bathroom is warmer and safer than benches which are among very people.
