i used to be really thin when i was in my grade school and highschool days.. no matter how many calories i take each day and have no exercise at all, i still remained thin.. i even considered myself blessed during those days.. however, after i graduated in college, i noticed that my weight is increasing and it seems like my metabolism is declining.. i'm having a hard time controlling my food cravings since i'm already used to eating large quantities of food.. now, i'm really missing my old body.. guess i really have to start to practice a more healthy lifestyle through my food selections and exercising.. share your own thoughts... :)

After enetring college the same happened to me, i didn't realized and there i was fat!!
well it took me 6 or 7 months to shed 10 kgs so i guess it isn't impossible. Make it a routine to exercise daily, do cardio's and everything.
Skipping rope for half an hour can burn calories equal to the calories in mc donalds burger :p
so you can do it!!
Good luck with losing weight!

Hey ofabiania,
Don't feel bad forget upset this I think happens to a lot of people and that's because we are getting older and the older we get the more we need to watch what we eat because like you said our bodies slow down on us and we still have e same mind and cravings haha.. Me I was always chubby guy and big I was going over 220 pounds at the age of 15 and I needed to do something about it. So yeah.. I have decided to go on a diet well a eat healthy and believe me it takes a lots of I'll power and self-discipline tell yourself no do you relly need that questions. I the end I have lost over 100 pounds. I am very proud of myself and can say hey.. I was there and if I can do it you can..

it's good that you are now having a normal weight.. the only thing that you have to do is to maintain it as to not go overboard.. :)

It is actually not hard to lose weight if we have the discipline. One puts on weight because the calories intake is more than the output. Just like a balloon. If you keep blowing air, it gets bigger. But if you lets out air, it gets smaller. The same with our body. If the energy we burn is less than the energy consumed, yes, there is weight gain. otherwise, weight loss occurs. The issue is we tend to overlook and missed the items with the little calories. Little calories added up can amount to a big one. lol.

From my experience as a therapist helping others to lose and control weight, I have found that the biggest problem is when people go on diets as it tends to have a yo-you effect. The lose weight, then put in back on again, lose weight, then put in back on again, and each time it becomes harder as the metabolism gets effected. All responsible diets would deal with a new way of eating that is right for the individual because we are all different and respond different to what we eat. We each need to find out what's right for us, for our health more than how slim we can appear. We may find that as we get older, we will always be wishing we were slimmer and we need to accept that and eat healthily - not too much and not to little. I have never found that there is one diet that suits everybody. Food cravings will decline if we don't eat that certain food, but first we need to ascertain if that food is good for us or bad for us. If bad, then we just need to focus on what we are feeling and leave the food alone. To try and deny that we crave and pretend to ourselves that we do not, will only make things worse. Commit to not eating the food, and focus on our cravings when we feel them, and they will eventually disappear. _Derek

I find the same thing myself. When I was growing up, I would eat like a horse. Now I eat less, but it is hard to lose weight. The first time I noticed any weight gain I was about 17 and my dad owned a donut shop (less than a year) and he would bring leftovers home every day. I haven't been able to get down to the weight I was at that time, but right now the doctors don't want me to lose any weight because I am in chemo. Now I know I need to exercise more in order to tone up my body and to get rid of the fat. Is it possible to eat a little less each meal and increase your activity level by just a little bit each day? Instead of eating until you are full, just eat a small meal slowly. I know I usually scarf down my food as fast as I can and I am still hungry. If I eat a little slower, I feel full with less food. I don't know if that will help, but it can't hurt. Good luck!!!

Hey don't worry, just go gym, and if thats not possible go for a brisk walk early mornings; and its always good to follow a healthy diet. There is nothing wrong to break the healthy diet once or twice a week and go for any diet you like. You can loose weight, its not a big deal, you just need to work hard a bit exercising and following a diet where you have to consume less calories.

I want to share my experience with you, control your appetite and do some exercise may help you a lot.In my case,i only have one bowl of rice in a meal, eating more vegetables than meats, avoiding to eat icecream and dessert which make you getting fatter, after supper,i will have a rest and then go out jogging for 30 minutes....a few months later,i find my weight lost, from 114K droped to 104K,i think the way i tried is very helpful!i hope this method can help you to lose weight

It is hard to lose weight because we cannot live without food, and if it tastes good, we want more. As you have said, our metabolism also slows down over time. I spend more time sitting and being online than I have ever sat in my life. It is important to find ways to move our body that are fun as that will help us maintain a healthier metabolism.

Why is it so hard for you to lose weight? I think you have answered your own question; you are older, your metabolism has gotten slower, and you overeat. All of those are choices that we make that makes us gain more weight than we desire. The way to reverse the weight loss dilemma is to exercise more and eat foods that will increase your metabolism. One of the things I do to increase my metabolism is to drink 16oz of ice cold water, first thing in the morning; it increases your metabolism. I hope this helps.

Loosing weight is really a challenge. It is not really hard to do... but rather it takes a long time to see the end result which one is hopeful to see. But, if you are patient and do all the necessary things like proper diet and exercise.. you'll be surprised with the end result.

true! and sometimes it's all because of the rate of their metabolism.. something to do with their thyroid.. i know someone like this.. she can totally eat anything and yet won't gain that much weight..

I have struggled with my weight all my life. I lost a lot of weight out of high school and did good on keeping it off until i got pregnant at the age of 21.I didnt gain weight fast, but about my 6 month of pregnancy I packed it on. After giving birth I had a hard time losing it. When my daughter was about a year I joined weight watchers and did great on losing the weight. I kept it off for a cpl years and than became pregnant with my son. I had wanted to gain a good amount of weight and stay active, but had a difficult pregnancy. I packed the weight on again and have struggle ever since. My son is now 5. Recently we moved and Im hoping with the change I can find the self motivation to lose some weight. Its not easy when like you said your use to eating a certain amount. Increasing your water in take can help too. When I had done weight watchers I lost 5 lbs my first week just with increasing my water.

I have dealt with weight issues all my life. highschool was horrible because i was picked on about my weight. I at most was at 240 lbs and i am only 5 foot 10. i am now at 215 and go to the local gym 5 days a week alternating cardio and lifting weights. ive found that this is the right combination to losing weight and keeping it off. along with of course proper diet. ive also noticed eating breakfast within half an hour of waking up with something that has a good amount of protein in it also helps. with the dieting you need to limit fatty foods, sugary foods, and your sodium levels..salt only leads to high blood pressure and water retaining. its tough forcing yourself to go to the gym and do the workouts but it is so worth it in the long run.
