lots of Popular Hollywood stars are Canadians, I had seen many Canadian actors who were able to crossover to Hollywood and be successful. Now this makes me wonder, Why Canada seemed not able to export their movies for the international, I can feel more presence from the Japanese and Korean film industry much more. I mean Canadian Movies (from the ones from Quebec) are in English but there seemed to be a struggle with international contribution. If Canadian movie actors can easily crossover to Hollywood, how come the Canadian movie industry unable to have an international audience?
I think there are some notable Canadian movie directors but they direct for Hollywood instead of Canada. Canada currently have a better economy but Why It's movie industry still struggle? It seemed like they remained behind Hollywood's shadow....
British cinema were able to have international presence as well...

I think we're always going to have an issue with this.
It seems to me that the Directors Guild of Canada(DGC) doesn't know how to promote our productions internationally.
I think sometimes though, that productions done in Canada aren't popular to be honest. Some of the movies made here, even I don't want to see them.
It's not a wonder that many Canadian actors will migrate to the US for film projects, they could be treated better down there, who knows.
I do know, after being an extra in a movie once, I would never do it again. Remember Love Guru? I sat in the ACC for about 10 hours freezing my buns off while they did a day of filming. The things they made us do certainly weren't worth the piddly pay that we were getting.
I don't know, that's just my opinion.

Even India seemed to have a better movie industry than Canada.. From what I heard their movie industry is in Toronto. They dont even seemed to have major movie studios from what I know. its kinda weird I can name 20 Canadian actors but i cant name 5 Canadian movies. If they have a movie industry they would have been able to show the world what makes them different from America.. It seemed like Canadian actors are even more interested in going to Hollywood than stay in their local industry.

There are several studios in Toronto, most on the waterfront, but I don't see any big names there.
And I agree, Bollywood is much bigger than the Canadian industry.
Many movies made in Canada, are made to look like American cities.
The Resident Evil movies were done here, some of Day after Tomorrow, like I said, Love Guru, even X Men was done here.
There was so little publicity on most of these, I had no idea they were done in my own backyard.
Some are low budget, but look at some of the titles I just gave you. These have been a boost to our economy, but there isn't much resulting from it since it's all American directors.

I just found out that most producers in Canada dont even have budgets. so they have a large pool of actors and actresses but there is lacking with production. I read an article saying most Canadian movies are low budget.

There is no way other countries can really compete with American movie industry ,they got long history ,that kind of culture and dozens of talented directors .So ,just stop blaming ,keep enjoying the great work they did .I can live with that without our domestic stuff .

Actually weird as it may sound there are actually other movie industries that may not have an impact like Hollywood yet they still have an international audience. I am actually not blaming hollywood, I mean even Hong Kong have a richer movie industry than Canada.

I only watch Kung-fu movies with good reviews, I dont care where movie cames from as logn as the reviews are good. You may not believe it but I am starting to dislike Hollywood due to cliche plots and Whitewashing, usually though people complain to their local cinema, I also watch Japanese and Korean movies since Hollywood loves remaking them. What really makes me wonder about Canada is the fact that lots of succesfull Hollywood stars are Canadian. There are so many huge Canadian stars yet I dont know any Canadian movie.

The interesting thing is that many shows and movies are filmed in Canada. The monopoly of the big film companies like Fox, Warner Brothers, MGM etc were able to create huge companies that have astronomical budgets, sometimes their publicity budgets are bigger then the whole budget of a Canadian film. Asian films, because they tend to have a different style of film and story can still make a place for themselves, Canadian cinema industry is not the exception but rather the norm.

Everyone from out of America feels the same as you do . Shooting a movie is an art not only about just having a great budget ,big studio ,movie stars but creativity ,uniqueness .As the technology gets more and more involved ,therefore culture barrier is no longer to keep people from appreciating great stuff from other countries . With that being said ,how come the audience would pass the time watching some lousy domestic flicks other than better ones made in Hollywood . BTW ,i quit Our Chinese movie for years ,i just feel embarrassed to watch this ,they disappoint me not a little .

I want a Canadian Hollywood, quite frankly not only the economy sucks here, the movies suck big time, too. What's with all the remakes I keep seeing lately. I think the Mexican cinema is better even though they lack quality. It would be awesome if other big countries developed better movies than Hollywood. I am tired of Hollywood, enough is enough, in my opinion, if Canada comes up with great films I'll be the first in line.

I haven't seen a single Canadian film , but with their economy and roster of good actors(lots of them are successful in Hollywood) it makes me wonder why they can't have a strong movie industry. I heard though Quebec have its own movie industry, Maybe Quebec should consider exporting movies to France so they can have a market outside of Canada.
Portland Oregon (which is in the US) is predicted to be the next Hollywood, It makes think, I hope that whatever kind of movie industry will bloom out of Portland will be something new.
We know Canada cant have high budget films that is not American made, and there is a struggle to penetrate the US, I think their solution should be trying to export in countries aside from US... It could work,....
I had seen some British movies that were able to build global hype... I think a country that is not USA, should be honored to at least have 1 movie a year that can build international hype, something is better than nothing.

Plain and simple..Canada dont make movie as good as Hollywood..that is one thing..
but then again..worlds no.1 movie director JAmes Cameron is Canadian..why he dont make movie in Canada? maybe just as its harder to arrange several things like distribution, releasing house..etc ..expertise helps if u shoot a movie in Wyoming, then try to sell it in Hollywood..(if u dont have connection with the Big movie releasingHouse 20th century fox..etc to start with)
the korean movie etc u see..needs an/a distrubtor for USA..
British cinemas liek Bond movie..have their counterpart and representative such as United Artist/UIP and MGM..

isn't it weird that hong Kong which is very far from America were able to make exports to United States and other countries,While Canada which is very close to US, cant contribute something overseas. Even Iran is able to export their movies due to film festivals.
Then we have the 'Toronto Film festival' which is like a dream for movie directors around the world....
On the positive side, Canada is praised for its health care.. Plus despite of having no popular movies , their actors are popular in America.

but..if im guessing.again
it just might one reason ,that USA makes more movie than most places on earth(exception for Bollywood,India)so..out of many..say 1000 movie a year..70-100 that u go watch..and than maybe just 300 movie in canada.after clearing all the crappy ones..(same in Britain, low budget movie etc..)ended just watching 5-7 canadian made movie.
if u go to Hong Kong.u can see all,YES im mean ALL the hong kong made movie are played in the cinema.. all are crap..say 400 movie a year..only 20-45 super good ones..jackie chan etc..will leave Hong kong to be shown abroad. out of that probably 5 will be played in USA a year later after securing a deal with an american distributors..
