With gas prices so high, do you still fill up your gas tank?

Do you still fill up your gas tank every time at the pump? I'm just curious enough to ask. I'm from the south, South Carolina and the gas prices here is higher than it needs to be. Just this week I went to the gas station twice. The first time I went to pump $15 worth, then today I pumped another $15 dollars worth. This is actually saving me money. Its almost the end of the week and I have almost a full tank, so hopefully it would get me though the rest of the week. How about you? Do you still fill your gas tank up, or whats your method?

I usually only put in $10-$20 just to get me around to where I need to get to. I am usually at home and don't venture out to often unless it is with my hubby and he usually has a full tank of gas in his car, so keeping a full tank in my car isn't really needed. It all depends on how far I need to go if I fill up my tank or not. But with the way gas prices are right now I haven't filled up my gas tank in a long time.

Understood. As for me, I'm in school on the other side of the city. Its at least a 25 minute drive everyday Monday-Thursday so sometimes filling my tank up is a must. Everybody situation is different. Either way the best method is to save as much as possible and i'm sure everybody can agree with that!

I do the same thing. I work from home and the only places I really need to go is my kids bus stop at the end of the street and the grocery store which is literally 2 min away.

hello keisha,
Despite of high gas price we don't have a choice not to fill it up because we have business and we are using trucks and vehicle services everyday
As much as possible we go to a gas station with a lower price than the other gas station.

This is understood when you have a business that requires the use of vehicles and gas. Thanks for sharing!

@bhabycatch013: Whoa there, is there really a difference in petrol price at your place? I think the petrol price should be equal in any place in your country, for the fact that the petrol price should have been standardized by your government...However, I believe there might be certain reason why those petrol stations are able to do that...
Nevertheless, I couldn't agree more that although the price is increasing we have no other option ...Petrol is simply essential nowadays and we need it no matter what...It is used in every aspect of our life and I think many of us will agree if I say that it is not money that makes the world go round nowadays - it's petrol...Keep on MyLotting to cover that up, my friend!

Well, Thank goodness for having a Toyota Prius, or we would be in trouble, as to until I can find a job closer to home, we are paying right around $3.89-$4 a gallon and driving over 500 miles a week so we have to fill up every 4 days usually. We always fill up unless $$ is low and then we just put in there what we can afford and hope for the Best from there.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean, I have a Toyota Corolla and Toyota is a great car on gas! Just last Sunday I put $13 in my tank and got a half of tank. I was so happy. How did this happen? It's a Toyota of course, but as we all know gas would last longer if it was a full tank, so that half tank didn't last long at all, but was still thankful!

I don't tend to fill it to where it gets topped off, but I do fill it as much as I can. The last time I got gas for my vehicle I spent $50 in one shot. Ouch! And here the needle didn't even hit F.
I don't normally spend this much at one time at the pump and I do try to set a limit as to how much I spend, but with prices always going up I figured it'd be cheaper in the long run.
Not that it makes much difference. I'll have to get more fuel eventually...
Happy mylotting!

I do think its important to fill up if you have it, that way gas last longer. The last time I filled my tank up was $40, and that was Sunday, its Friday and I'm at a half of a tank, so far I'm doing really good.

Usually I fill my tank at the beginning of the week. If gas prices appear to be rising, I will put more gas in my tank, even if I just put gas in the day before. I put gas in my tank at least two times a week, and have noticed that gas prices seem to change on Tuesdays and Thursdays here. I figured out how much it costs me to drive to and from work, so I try to put enough gas in just to get me through the week. It seems as though I am saving some money by filling my tank at the beginning of the week and then putting enough gas in to get me through the week. Right now gas is $3.95 a gallon at a lot of gas stations here, but I did find it for $3.74 a gallon. Gas is sooetc. ridiculous that I can barely afford to go to work and I have to cut other fun things out of my life just to pay for gas. Very sad!

Understood, gas prices are nothing like it was compared to a few years ago! Only if those days were the same. Here gas goes up periodically. Yesterday it was $3.63 I believe, today I could be different. I guess we just have to work with what we have.

This makes sense, at this time cheaper gas is better. Its all in saving money, but getting quality for what you pay for.

I usually still fill up my gas tank - but in general I don't drive a ton, meaning I don't go out of town, so if I don't go anywhere really, it can last me more than a week. I have a 16 gallon tank so it costs quite a bit to fill it up, the last time I think it was around 60 bucks.

I'm not even sure how many gallons it takes for me to fill up my tank. Never paid much attention to it, but the average prices is from $38-42, and thats if I still have a little bit of gas left.

I always fill my car's gas tank when I gas up my car. I have alawys done that. I have a gasoline credit card which I use at the mini mart I get gas. I alawys get a monthly bill and make a payment every month. I rarely use cash and I know it would be better because I get service charges on my bill. I just use the card for gas. Sometimes I use it for stuff in the mini mart. When winter was here,we had wind, cold and snow! When dring in that darn weather I had to drive with my car's defroster and heater on! That chews up alot of gasoline! Hopefull winter is finally gone and I will save gasoline! I don't have my part-time job at this time! I should have it back in June! Until then I will save money! I am not thrilled about the high price of gas! I really hate that it had jumped so high in such a short time! It is like you blink and gasoine is up again! I wish I could live without a car but that is impossible where I live!

Understood, living w/o a car is hard where I live also. As for me, I use to fill up my tank. This week I choose a different route and actually saved about $10. This could go the next weeks gas bill. And that gas credit card you have is really interesting. I have a major credit card and it includes gas no interest, but i never use it on gas. Only for emergencies. At this point, I'm trying not to use anymore credit cards and get my bills down. So I can focus on more things like shopping again! lol

Understood, the best method is to get as much as you can, and trying to save as much as possible. With my new method. I think I save about $9-10 this week. Which isn't bad. That extra money can go to next weeks gas.

@dimzok: The same goes here in my place...As for me, I only fill up the petrol every now and then whenever my petrol tank is almost empty...I did that to make sure that I don't use my motorcycle to go to near places which will reduce my petrol efficiency, because as for me I will think twice before I fill up my petrol tank...
Sometimes I also use another transportation of mine - a bicycle - to go to near place like grocery shop and cafe...It is as convenient as motorcycle, does not need petrol and is much greener choice compared to petrol-driven transportation...Nevertheless, the best way for me is to save more by using the petrol only when it is really necessary, rather than buying more and more...

Wow, this is uncalled for! I know living up north is expensive, but I didn't think it was that expensive! I'm from South Carolina gas is $3.55 per gallon. Hearing that its $11.67 a gallon where you are from, makes me not want to complain about our gas prices.

Great Question!
I usually fill my car up with gas every Friday, because that's when I get paid. It takes 50 dollars to fill my car up! The gas prices here are 4.19. I heard it is going to go up to 5 something in May. If it does, everyone's going to have a hard time getting gas.

Its $3.55 per gallon where i'm from and it takes about $40 to fill up my tank. I too think its going to go up, and if it gets any higher I will be forced to cut back on a lot of things even more.

I put in 20....then wait a couple of days....then top it off or put in another 20....I had to fill last weekend as I was going to my friends in Wisconsin...had a quarter of a tank and hit 40 bucks....another 25 for on the way home.....today...another 25 bucks...seems so rediculous!

It is ridiculous.Like i said, earlier. I had less than a half of tank, I put in $15 Monday, and today Wednesday I put in another $15. I'm starting to like this method. Anything that works and saves me money. I think I saved $9-10 this week.

I don't drive much so thankfully a half tank will typically last me 2 weeks. I put in what I can afford at the minute and do alot of coasting.

I don't have any method in particular to save me money from gasoline. Whenever my gas tank is low, I would stop by the gas station, and fill up full. Well, luckily, the gas price is about going down a bit right now, so, I still have to fill it up whenever I need it. I hope that our gas price will be down again by this summer.
