what are you afraid of?

It's called Nyctophobia for me or in layman's term, fear of the darkness. I dunno. I guess I've always been afraid of the dark and I've never been able to sleep alone without the lights on. I'm already twenty years old but nothing has changed. Actually, I'm not afraid of darkness itself but it's the fear of ghosts, bad spirits and robbers. I just think that if I keep the lights on, there's a smaller chance of seeing them. I actually even believe that bad spirits and ghosts are afraid of the dark.
In high school, I remember seeing a figure which I could not make out to be 2d or 3d. It was shaped like the man's sign in comfort rooms and happened during a fire. When morning came, I talked to some of my classmates about it and some of them said they've also seen the same figure. In my high school days, I remember also hearing a crying baby at the dead of the night and sometimes, when you're lucky enough you get to hear a mother humming the baby to sleep. Most of us first years have heard it and we guessed that it was probably due to the fetus contained in a jar at the science lab beside our dorm. But the most frightening thing I've heard was the one time when I suddenly woke up, dead of the night. All of my dormates were already asleep and my bestfriend was sleeping very soundly. I was staring at the top of my bunk since we slept in double deckers when suddenly, there came this inexplicable sound that resembled many voices of lost souls, similar to the ones you hear in horror movies. I woke my bestfriend up to see if she would also hear it but to my dismay, she just punched me because she was scared to death when she heard it and just went to sleep again. The voices continued on until finally it was no longer eerie to hear it and I fell asleep. Since then, I had been more scared of the dark.
I never watch horror films again, especially those that were created by Asian film makers. I've been traumatized since I watched The Grudge with my friends.
I actually can't imagine my life when I already have my own house. I think I'll just have to wait for my husband (in the future) before I come home. haha. How about you? Are you afraid of the dark? what are you afraid of?

I don't have any fears like those, I just can stand losing. I don't regularly place myself in situation to lose ( not a gambler). If I can fore see it I'll just leave. If it takes all day to get it right no problem, but at the end of the day I must master it.

Losing a competition sporting I don't have a problem with, and I am say that I am good at everything, but those things that i work hard to accomplish and love, losing at those stuff I fear. Perfectionist in somethings not everything. and I don't expect everyone to be like me. I am sure there is somethings you try to put a little perfection into?

haha. wow.. talk about perfectionist.. anyway, sometimes its really hard to lose but there will be times when you'll lose.. you'll havr to learn how to accept it. however, forme i learn a lot more when i lose compared to when i win.

Like you i am also afraid of dark.when i was child i used to sleep in between my two elder brothers but also i was feeling uncomfortable, now i am 25 but also sometime i got fear by nightmares and all.
you should try to come out of this by telling to your heart that there is nothing like such things.i am now staying in a house alone where jungle is on back side and few people are nearby me.but now i am matured and things are changed.now i am not afraid of dark.

At last! someone who was afraid of the dark back then. Haha. I will try to overcome my fears but I can't promise that I'll be successful in doing so. I've tried a lot of times to sleep alone in the dark, but I end up turning on the lights just a few minutes after.

hi ohsodianne nope not afraid of the dark and I think your probem is you have a vivid imagination. wow. I however still am afraid of heights
and that really still bothers me. ever since I fell from a tall lake bank as a kid of five and had to be pulled out of the water,I have a deep
fear of heights. I dislike being in an elevator going up in a tall building. also I hate to walk to the edge of anything tall as I image
' I may fall.but I have tried to master it enough at least to go on and lead a normal life. loll

i don't like snakes too and i might have a phobia myself. i remember me and my boyfriend going to a zoo once and then he wanted to take a picture of me with the snake. the snake was white and had yellow spots. i knew it wouldnt bite me or something but i was still so scared when the zookeeper wrapped the snake around my neck.

I have a fear of cockroaches ,spiders, centipedes and so on.I'm not just scared of them - I fall into hysteria. They are so abominable and nasty.. I can't even watch them . I dream nightmares if I see on of them. I am too scared to be close to it,so I can't kill it. This is the reason that I don't want to stay alone at home- I'm afraid that it will happen exactly then - and I'll be alone with it. I remember one evening , when I was alone at home, I was in the bathroom and was talking with my mum on the phone, and I said on joke "can you imagine if I open the door now and see a cockroach in front of it" ,and 5 seconds later I opened the door - and it was there!! Since then I am superstitious. Well, enough cockroaches for me this night, because I'm going to sleep few minutes later and I don't want to have nightmares again :D

There's not much that can scare me but I admit that I am terrified of confined spaces especially elevators! I cant stand the feeling or the paranoia that the walls are closing in and that I'm constrained into a tight spot. Even imagining it as I write this comment makes me hyperventilate a bit..

Well people can be scared of a lot of things. Being claustrophobic is actually common. I wonder what would happen if all claustrophobics were put in an elevator together.

all i can say is i die if i see cockroaches. i freak out and faint. i have a distinct sense that i would know if roaches are around like; i could smell them and i can hear ther stinky feet moving. it's more scary than snakes.

hahaha.. then you should probably read on my discussions about the cockroaches. Anyway, I'm a bit of afraid of cockroaches myself. I've actually had some bad experiences with them.

Im afraid of rats and dogs. I dont really want them near me. I got traumatized when i was kid. My cousins and uncles used to make fun of me. They used to scare me of rats and dogs. Once they put a rat on top of my head! I was really crying then.

Oh, for me its kind of the opposite. I love dogs even though I remember one chasing me and trying to bite me when I was a kid. Nevertheless, I love them. As for rats, I like rats, not the ones that you see on the sewers but the laboratory rats. We worked with them for our research and they were very cuddly. Only problem was, their urine smells really foul.

Well I know that i used to be scared of spiders lol. I just thought they were the most hideous looking things i ever seen. Just everything about them disgusted me. Not only did they have all those legs but their large abdomens and their ugly face lol. The funny thing about that is my previous fear of spiders led me to have nightmares when i first saw the movie Predator (when i was a young boy). When he took off his mask, he was literally the ugliest looking thing i ever saw. And he just had to look like a spider for some reason lol. But ya spiders were something i was afraid of inli my early years lol.

haha! it's good that you were only afraid of them in my early years. Me? even if i try to sleep with the lights off, I just eventually end up turning the lights on. :))
