Sri Lanka cricket Board has asked fast bowler Lasith Malinga to stop playing in IPL and return home to undergo rehabilitation program on his injury. The player had decided to opt himself out of Sri Lanka tour of England on account injury to his knee. The board feels it looks awkward for a player to declare himself unfit and opt out of the service to the country and continue to play for a private franchisee in IPL. While it is a different matter that I.C.C. should keep a clear window for such an important tournament as IPL, which allows the players to earn substantial money for themselves, An individual should consider the interest of his country ahead of his personal interest. Malinga should consider playing for his country ahead of playing for his franchisee. If he feels he is not fit enough to play in tests should retire from that format of cricket just like Afridi did. What is your take on this?

Hi rajeev,
It appears Malinga after that injury 2 years back is not so much interested in playing test cricket because playing five days tough cricket requires a player to be fit fully unlike in IPL or O.D.I. match. For that he should retire himself from that brand of cricket which he has not done so far.

I think Malinga seems to have made up his mind that he wants to retire from the test game. SL board do not have to ask him to undergo a rehab for physical condition, but for the mental aspect as to whether he wants to play tests or not. I feel that mentally he feels that he wants to play only the smaller formats of the game.
Cheers!
