Yes, you read it right, I am a few chapters into a rather large memoir and my mom came over today and picked it up. She was so interested in the book and was really enjoying it. So I told her to take it home and enjoy it and I will read it after she brings it back! lol! After she left, I'm like, "What did I just do? I was reading that!!!" lol.. did you ever loan out a book while you were reading it?

Uhh... nope. Can't recall ever doing that. I've been the one borrowing books currently being read though. It's their fault! They shouldn't leave such interesting literature lying around! lol

lol! I think you just need to hide the ones you're reading. That's what I've learned to do with my family.

... and three hours later I put down an anthology I planned on reading. I left both the volume I that I'd already read and the volume II that I hadn't started. Mom picks up the one I hadn't started. Of course she does.

You are absolutely correct, it's my fault for leaving it on the table by my chair! lol!! Next time she's coming this way I am going to hide all my most interesting books, or at least the ones I am reading at the time! lol!

Odd that you just brought this up, because I just did that! I read several books at the same time, as a rule, otherwise I'd miss it more. Still, the person who borrowed it is going through it swiftly, & enjoying it, so perhaps I won't be forced to wait too long! (It's called "Mayflower," & is a great history book! ) Maggiepie "In nature there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are consequences." ~ Robert Green Ingersoll, lawyer & orator 1833-1899

Yeah, I have a couple others I am presently working on so it won't matter to much. She will finish it in no time and I'll have it back soon. Chances are though that I will most likely read it quicker when it is returned! I'm so funny!

Well, I know that I have done this before, and usually end up regretting it as well. Especially when it is to someone who is a Slow reader, or someone I am not even sure I will get the book back from. But in your case where it is your Mom, you know you will get it back. Just hopefully she is not the type who when giving it back will not be like "WOW!!" and then tells you about the book not knowing you have not finished it yet.

I too give away things that I enjoy most when someone asks for it. It is a way of life with people like us. Good to know that we are sailing in the same boat.

If it were my mom then it would just be fine, I'll do anything for my motherguess we were sort of more pesky when we were kids and she got to tolerate us, so I see no reason not to give back the favor to her. For other people, it would still be fine provided they return it soon as they finish reading

My mom and I have some similar tastes so didn't mind a bit - we "share" a lot of books back and forth many times anyway! She'll finish it long before I will!

When reading a absorbing novel ,we all hope that we get it done at one go.However your Mum was so interested in it and fondled admiringly so you have to refrain yourself for some time.It is hard to come by you both love reading.

Yes, and my daughter loves to read too! But she and I don't always like the same things like my mom and I do! It's neat to have something all three generations share in common!

My wife has done that before when someone has come over and shown interest in it. As she is a giving person and could see how her friend could benefit from it, she loaned it to her. She then complained about having nothing to read even though we have more that 500 books in our shelves!

I have only abou 300 books yet somehow felt very empty handed after she left with the book I had pulled out and placed on the table by my chair to read!

I must say, that was very nice of you to do that and very generous to want her to enjoy it before you. I've loaned books to other people before but never when I was in the middle of reading it. Hopefully, she won't take very long to finish it!

Well, it is a larger book and I am taking forever to read it since I don't have much time to read so I figured she could read it quicker and then bring it back and I can enjoy it then!

I actually have not been asked for one I was reading at the time. I suppose it would be okay, providing it gets returned. lol

I really didn't mind as I am reading it rather slowly.. a very little bit at a time. She had almost caught up to where I was by the time they left! lol! She'll bring it back and then I will finish reading it!

I know - but it was like I felt so glad she was excited about the book and I knew I would take a long time to read it so I figured she could get it all read pretty soon!
