Just wondering why blu-ray players are called blu-ray what is the history behind that name, I mean why did the inventor's choose that name? I have a feeling that the name must have something to do with how the technology works, but I'm not sure do any of you know or ever wounder why they call it blu-ray?

The name Blu-Ray is actually derived from the underlying technology which utilizes a blue-violet laser to read and write the data. The name is a combination of "Blue" (Blue-Violet Laser) and "Ray" (optical ray). According to the Blu-Ray Disc Association the spelling of Blu-Ray is not a mistake, they intentionally omitted the character e for trademark purposes.
