Felling asleep with the television on, do you?

So do you fall asleep with the television on? I do, for a few reasons. Going to sleep with the tv on in general helps me sleep better. I can come home late from work, the first thing I would do is walk into my bedroom and turn the television on. I would prepare myself for bed, and I'm just as tired as a dog, but I would watch tv until I actually dose off. What about you? Have you ever fell asleep with the tv on intentionally or non intentionally?

My tv has a timer. When i go to bed i set it to shut off about 1 hour after i get into bed.

I set it to shut off even if im not sleepy because once i start watching especially if i lay down to watch i end up falling asleep anyway.

This is smart, and I agree. I'm the same way, so the tv timer does help out a lot.

I do so virtually every time, but then, my TV is usually tuned to a soft music channel. The only drawback to this is that the channel keeps the TV's bright light shining. They used to allow the screen go black, & if one wanted to learn the name of a piece of music or its composer or artist, all one needed to do was tap the remote, & it would show for half a minute or so. Sometimes I find the glare bothersome. The series of music channels offered by my cable company is called Music Choice. They have a much larger selection of music types than do the radio stations available, so playing the radio isn't an option, or I would! I sometimes play "Seasonal" & "Classical" channels, but mostly I prefer the channel "Soundscapes," which plays largely instrumental music, & is basically "newage" (not a typo! It rhymes with what I think of the philosophy, & I swiped the term from Penn & Teller). A lot of it is Celtic & "world" music, & it's mostly gorgeous stuff. It gives me nice dreams. Oh, I quite agree! I can tell the difference between the nights I've fallen asleep to the strains of "Na Connerys," some Amerindian flute music, or "Claire de Lune" from the nights "Law & Order" or "Bridezillas" were playing when I drifted off. The dreams from those are as different as Heaven & Hell! Maggiepie "Science without religion is lame, & religion without science is blind." ~ Albert Einstein

It is often unintentionally when I dozed off in front of the television. The biggest irony is that the moment I woke up, realised the tv is on, switched it off and return back to my room, I am not able to sleep!

This is ironic, and understandable. As, when I'm coming home from work late, and I'm sleepy while driving. When I actually get home and get ready for bed, I'm wide awake lol. Thanks For sharing!

Hi. keshia2007r. Yes. I have fallen asleep many times. Since my husband has put a TV in our bedroom, I will watch the show on our TV until I go to sleep. It is fun, because I love the shows that are on the TV. I end up falling asleep in my eyeglasses too.

Haha, this is funny because I always fall asleep in my glasses. Thankfully they are all in one piece when I wake up because they are sometime somehow removed from my face. Don't ask lol Thanks for sharing!

No, I can never fall asleep with the television on. I am the type of person who needs white noise to sleep, like a fan. If the tv is on, I will never fall asleep because I will concentrate on hearing what it is saying. I can't even sleep if I can hear myself breathe. I have a problem with insomnia anyway. Sleeping is like torture to me sometimes.

Understood, everybody is different and we would have to be complete opposites. Being that I can enjoy my sleep while watching tv.

I don't but my roommate does. She always has to have it on the Disney Channel of Family Guy when she goes to sleep. Strange combination, right? Shes an odd one but she is a great friend. I hardly have my television on at all but she has hers on nearly constantly and has apparently fallen asleep with the TV on since she was very little. So hers is definitely intentionally.

Understood, we are all different. Maybe she thinks it is peaceful to go to sleep watching a program she is familiar with?

I do the same thing. I have my laptop by my bed, and I get whole seasons of a TV show, and just watch the next one on the list while I'm lying in bed getting to sleep. Usually watch one from bed, then turn over and listen to the next one as I fall asleep. I find it really comforting, and I seem to get to sleep pretty well. Although, the real best way to get to sleep is to read at night. Something about the low lighting and looking over the pages makes you tired quite easily (as long as the book isn't TOO thrilling) and you drift off quite easy.

I agree, reading before bed is definitely comforting. Some people prefer one thing over the other. I could deal with both! Thanks for sharing!

I did on the television set since I entered my hotel room until the next day morning when I check out. ha! ha! ha! I were doing so because I were alone in the hotel for the whole night. I were too lonely and I felt the room was too quiet. At home, I never have such habit. I am sure this is not a healthy habit to keep the television set on when I am sleeping. Not only my ears and my eyes can not fully rest, but also the radiation from the television set can harm my health too.

My room has to be dark and quiet in order for me to sleep. I tried leaving those calming ocean waves to help me sleep one night and it did not help at all.

Understood, people are different. I've tried the ocean sea shells, it didn't work for me, but somehow the television does. haha.

I love watching TV especially late nights. If I'm very tired, I end up falling asleep even if my favorite show is on. I wake up 30 minutes to 1 hour later and realize what I was watching is already over and it's already a different show on the TV.

Sometimes I do fall asleep with the t.v. on. But much of the time I do it unintentionally. I don't really need the t.v. on to help me fall asleep. I know it really is kinda like wasting power if I left the t.v. on when I am not watching it. So I try not to do that. There are times when I fall asleep for a couple of hours with the t.v. still running.

yes, we all have experience this, some do it intentionally and unintentionally. For me sometimes it is both, because it helps me sleep better, but i must try not to forget to put the tv on sleep mode, because it is like wasting power.

I habe been guilty of falling asleep with the television before. I get too relaxed and into a program and before i know it i am asleep and i have missed the end of my program but i don';t think that i care at that point.

haha, same here, if i'm really sleepy i wouldn't care enough to try to watch the end of a program.

Hi Keshia! Yeah I do the same. Lol. I usually like sleeping with the TV on and the channel would either be in the news or in National Geographic. Somehow this 2 TV programs helps me fall asleep faster.

For me, I find those the not so interesting channels and they will for sure put me to sleep lol no offense. But I think its pretty much safe to say we all have fallen asleep while watching tv.

I used to on the TV and fall asleep before. Now I can already sleep without the TV! Even though sometimes is intentionally done, especially when I am with my brother. The last time I did that was around 4 years ago I guess. It's been a long time since I've fallen asleep with the TV on.

As for me, things are a bit different. I actually fell asleep watching tv last night. Lucky I remembered to put the tv on sleep so that it could turn off on its own.

I never do because I had this horrible experience with it: I fell asleep with the show "Criminal Minds" on and I had a terrible nightmare where someone was trying to break into my apartment and kill me! I woke up and saw that that show was on an episode where a serial killer breaks into womens' apartments and murders them so that is why no more tv on while I'm sleeping, lol!

Thanks for sharing this experience. I have a friend that dreams about the last person he talk to. If its on the phone or in person. So I guess this is kind of like you. Dreaming about what you last seen on tv. It happens.
