will you try your best to learn the business you are gonna handle? or try your best to get to know your colleagues first?
are you comfortable with so many new colleagues around you?
will you talk about things have nothing to do with your work to know them faster?

Since most jobs involve training in the first month, I do my best to learn about the work I'm doing. I'll familiarize myself with the processes and so on. Along the way, I get to know the people I work with. It was quite funny at work. More than 3 months have passed and my colleagues who started work the same as me don't know the people around us. By that time, I already got to know names of some of our senior co-workers and admin members (we're just a small company by the way) and people from other departments. It was one of the things I learned from my teacher in college. I observed him knowing many people all around the campus. It's fun to get along with people at work because it adds to the healthy work environment.

when I first start a job, i focus on the business part of it first partly because I want to do a good job and there is a learning curve at first and partly because i am very shy. When I have the job done and know my way around and what i am doing, i try to mingle more and meet colleagues and get to know them. I startup conversation about work because that is what we have in common at first and then slowly get to know people, but i do focus on work first because that is all i know. Once I get to know my colleagues, I hardly talk about work to them unless we are working together and we have to. I prefer to talk about things outside of work and that are important to them and me.
