What do you think of AI 10's New judges?

Hello myLotters!
So what do we really think about how the new judges judge? Do you think they are fair to every contestant?
At times, I feel they are not being very fair. They give someone many praises even when I think that they didn't do a good enough job. They put someone down even though I think it was an okay job. Sometimes I think they're biased towards their favorites.
Mostly, I am frustrated because they mimic each other's "judging". When one says it was a good performance, the others say the same. When one says it wasn't very good, the others agree! When Randy, Paula, and Simon judged, they each put in their opinions. I wish Simon would come back and give a proper criticism.
What do you think? Were there instances when they overpraised and underpraised someone? Speak your mind!
Good day!

Let me begin by saying...I DO NOT MISS SIMON!!! I don't think you need to put somebody down in order to judge them fairly!!! Jennifer does give constructive criticism & I believe that the judges give a lot of "behind the scene" guidance to the contestants that we aren't allowed to see. I found Simon to be boorish & extremely rude. As a matter of fact, I had meant for last season to be my last to watch because I couldn't stand to hear him any longer!!! Then I had to watch this year to see what the new judges had to bring to the table!!!
Why would a judge need to tell a horrid singer "that was horrible" when they can just vote them off??? Jennifer gave Pia, Lauren & Scotty some "polite criticism" which I found to be good advice. Did you not see that Simon was playing the "devil's advocate" in an attempt to stir up emotions to draw in more viewers??? That insulted me as I don't need to be goaded into watching. I watch for the talent NOT for the judges. It is my personal opinion that Randy was ALWAYS boring. I got tired of him calling everybody "Dawg". Now it's "Dude"... just in case he hasn't noticed, a few aren't Dudes...they are "Dudettes". Steven is a lecherous old man who would be put in jail in the "real world". Jennifer is the ONLY one saying anything of importance. When I don't agree with them, I just assume they have an ear for music that I'm not trained to have!!! As a matter of fact, when the new show "The Voice" comes out in April, I plan on watching it until I can determine which is best as far as talent goes & I may well switch over!!!

I generally put a LOT of passion in what & I think & feel!!! Simon brings out the best & worst of that passion!!! When I see him on anything other than American Idol, I love his honesty & even enjoy his smugness!!! I have NOTHING against being blunt; but rude & blunt really ticks me off & I heard Simon as rude more often than blunt!!! Many a former idol contestants commented how he came backstage & gave them many wonderful ideas. They learned to just NOT listen to his on air crass remarks. Well, I never got to see the tender side of Simon & I despised the rude part of Simon!!! My Mom taught me that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar;so I NEVER cared for the vinegar Simon spewed!!! Therefore, I don't care how horrible the Idol judges get...they are MUCH BETTER than Simon in my opinion!!! I'm NOT asking you to agree with me....just stating my opinion!!!
Think back over the previous 9 seasons where Randy wasn't considered the lead judge. Simon was the cranky old fart, Paula was the one who was set up to take on Simon & Randy played it safe. Then they brought Kara in to be the voice of reason. During Season 9 Randy began to attempt to fill Simon's shoes & did a terrible job at it. So it appears they changed his roll. Steven is endearingly funny, but can't judge for crap. Jennifer seems to be taking her job seriously & truly wants to help without being nasty. That's the kind of judge I like!!! Anytime Paula was on a talk show, she made the comment that you can give criticism without being nasty & I totally agree. I watched her dance show earlier this year & I saw 3 judges who had no problem saying "I didn't really care for it...because..." & then they told them how they would have done it differently. At the end of the night, I didn't feel like any contestant had been attacked & I left ENJOYING the show!!! I found that Simon's way of judging left me feeling FRUSTRATED!!! I often felt like he was playing the viewers & I did NOT enjoy it!!! I think you get the pic!!!! Thinking back to Season 1, he was cute & funny & he gradually grew worse & worse until he became unbearable!!!
OK...stepping off my soapbox!!!!

Hello LadyMarissa!
I can see that you feel strongly about this issue and I like that very much! Personally, I didn't mind Simon being blunt, but I also respect your opinion. I guess I too was caught up in the hype of judging. Now that I think about it, the judging part is mostly for the audience/rating benefit, after all.
But I would also like to see the judges feeding appropriate feedbacks for the benefit of the contestant. I don't like how Randy says things, which for me only pleases the audience. Steven is funny, but should give things of more substance. It frustrates me that he's a playing-safe judge. I like JLo in the show. She's kind and knows what she's talking about.

I never watched AI very muuch until this season. When I saw Simon, he was soooooo over the top that at times I felt he was playing to the audience.
This year...Steve seems a bit out of sync imo. He loves everyone most of the time.
I think Lauren and Scotty are my fav. :)

Hello stary1! It's too bad you didn;t watch the previous seasons. I think season 7 was the best, with David Cook as the winner. Also, In my opinion, Simon was fair. He really gave good constructive criticism and knew what constitutes a good performer.
I agree that Steven loves everyone. But I believe he's responsible for the boost in ratings because he's so funny.
I don't really care who wins this season. They are all good to me. :)

I agree Simon was truthful, but I felt sorry for some of the kids and the comments made about them. I do wonder though, since some were soooo bad, are they publicity hounds?? I suppose they needed to know the truth if they think they are good, still it seemed soooo harsh :(
Steve is funny and a great attraction to the show. I agree all are extremely talented and I can't figure out who should win.

I totally agree with everything you mentioned in this discussion.Although i like and admire the judges for their individual talents, i so disagree with their judging abilities.
In their opinion, every contestant is wonderful, everyone does a great job, saying they wish they could all win and so on and so on.
There were many occasions when i wondered if perhaps i was hearing something quite different than the judges were, such as a bad performance they thought was just great and then i realized that they will almost never criticize any contestant, so, now i just can't take them seriously at all.
Many people used to criticize Simon for being too harsh and i agree at times he could be, but i also appreciated his honesty and many times i think the contestants did as well.Constantly praising someone no matter how bad their performance is, really isn't helping them grow at all, honest criticism is what does.

Definitely i would also want for Simon to be on AI. They are not giving constructive criticisms to contestants. They are always so nice especially Steven Tyler, "beautiful" was his favorite word. Can they not look up the dictionary for new adjectives?? i really miss Simon when it's judging time. In fairness to AI, Season 10 is full of really good singers. I'm just not a fan of Scotty hehe sorry to all his fans but it's just a personal opinion.

hi there! sometimes i wish i could shake steven and tell him to use other words! but i remember him using something that was uncommon...i think it was epitaph? or something... but steven rarely makes any useful comments, except to make the contestant smile. xD

at times i feel like they are just praising the contestants rather than helping them become better singers by giving them constructive criticisms.. i think that j.lo and randy are giving reliable comments but i'm not quite sure with steven.. it's because he tells everyone's performance as "beautiful" that's why the word already lost its meaning to me.. i still loved the way simon judges before.. :)
p.s. j. lopez is just amazingly beautiful now.. she just glows.. :D

They are either totally over the top or utterly underwhelming. Hardly do the contradict each other. Randy seems to the only judge offering cnstructive feedback. Sadly, Simon has gone. He was the fox in the hen house, keeping everyone on their toes.

Hello albert! Yes, I miss Simon too. He was fair in his judging. Randy does give constructive feedback sometimes, but to me, he's mostly biased towards his favorites.
