Do you think crying is a sign of weakness or strength?

It depends... If I'm crying because of a sad movie I think it's neither, lol. I think crying is based on different emotions. You can be happy, yet crying. You can be crying because your scared, you can be crying because you see someone else is crying, etc. I just don't think you cry as a sign of strength...

I don't think it is a sign of either. I almost never cry, I have friends that cry at everything. I think it is just an indication of how emotional you are. Not of your strengh or weakness.

for me, crying is not a sign of weakness.. it's just a way of letting your emotions out.. there could be a lot of reasons why a person cry - too much frustration, sadness and even too much happiness.. being true to your feelings is and will never be a sign of weakness.. :)

Crying is definitely not a sign of weakness. This is only something that has been thrust upon us by our various cultures, especially for me. When I was a kid, I was constantly suppressing my tears when I got hurt playing sports etc because if I had cried I would have been laughed at. But since I have trained as a therapist, by view has changed a lot. Crying is natural if we are upset. Most animals cry in their own way quite naturally if they are hurt or frightened, but they do not worry what their fellow animals would think, and they fellow animals rarely notice anyway. Human beings are just animals that think and have opinions. It is a shame that these opinions control us so much. If anything it is strong opinions that show weakness as the person is not strong enough to go against conventional opinions and ideas. If you want to cry, go for it! But you may find there are some opinions in the mind that would block any tears! _Derek

hello,
I don't know? because as what you have said we experience crying when we are happy or sad? right? I don't consider it as a weakness or strength I think both? I don't know how to explain it but that's how I look to it. because sometimes we cry for ourselves or sometimes we cry for somebody else? it is both weakness and strength? So, how do I know it? hmmm

I think it depends on the situation. If you are crying excessively over nothing, it's a weakness. If you lost somebody and you cry, that's understandable and you need to get it out to be strong. If you're crying over a chick flick...not strong. lol

i dont knoe !!
i guess if u cry hard and cant do anything, get freezed is the sign of weakness or it could be smth else as well but in fact it is just a normal phenomena which happens due to emotions and reactions which we link with weakness.
personally speaking if i get angry i get tears rolling out but i did not mean to cry, like sweating when tired.

In my opinion, it is a strength because my people try very hard not to cry because of the need to live up to social expectation. These people lack the strength to acknowledge the need to release their bottled up emotions. Hence, I feel those who do cry and is able to cry is portraying a strength of theirs.

Crying is good from time to time. It helps to bring peacefulness. Too much crying is a sign of weakness in the sense the person has some psychological problems caused by trauma. Not crying at all may not be good the same way as not laughing at all. This does not mean the person is strong.

I feel the same way crying is not a sign of strength. When sad emotions well up inside you start crying .Kids cry because of their inability to grab their parents attention. The reason has probably changed we minght not seek attention anymore but we deffinetely feel unable to achieve something that is probably the main reason that we give up and cry.Even when we cry because of a movie is the empathy that we feel for the character and the fact that we can not do something about it that we cry.We also cry because of relief and happiness that is somehow different but still somehow prodused by the same emotions or freedom of sad emotions.

Crying is not a sign of weakness, specially when done by boys.
It is a means to voice out what sadness or anger we may be feeling inside. It is a relief afterward didn't you notice?
For me, i cry when i am sad or when i am angry. After crying , i really feel relieved.

Well for me crying provide us to release internal pressure which we hide for so many reasons like, In our culture and society Men's Don't cry or they don't want to be. But they must find a way to release these emotions which we are hiding internally. Why ?
Because it will bring calmness and peace of mind for us externally and internally which will reflect in our daily decisions and we will move towards success.
When ever some one hurt me or my feelings I personally when go for sleep and off the lights of my room, "I recall the incident and try to cry" after that I always feel'd better and more positive. So for me crying is not a shame but you must cry to reflect your real emotions and bring calmness for your internal system :D.

I agree with you, it depends on the mood, or what is going on.
I used to be able to cry easily.
With a sad movie or when someone was sad.
But, somewhere along the way I lost it.
I don't cry easily anymore. I have become harder through the years.
But, when I do cry, I can hardly stop.
It is like I have kept all emotions bundled up inside for too long.
I believe it is better to cry every once in a while than to hold it all in.

Hi santos mari chris:; Sometime, specially when you are brave enough to express your feelings, crying could be a sign of strenght but when someone can't face the challenges of his/her life and just keep on crying that's a clear sign of weakness. So it really depends on the situation as you have said.
