This is just one observation I had with our 97 years old grandma. She sleeps a lot, is this normal for oldies?

my grandma is having hard time sleeping, she'll sleep at around 8pm, then i woke her at 11pm because my aunt want to talk to her on the phone, and then the next day she told me she wasn't able to sleep back again. haha my grandpa on the other hand still sleeps normal. he'll sleep at around 9-10pm and will wake up at 6-7am. then he'll take a little nap at noon. :) i think it depends on the sleeping habit they had when they were still younger, and of course being old they need more extra time to rest.

Yes, this is normal. This is not because they are lazy but because their bodies are not fit to do physical activities anymore.

She had a lot of years. Why would someone not let her sleep?
Healthy? I don't know the current condition of your grandma is invisible to us so I can't really tell.
Too much sleep is not healthy.

It is normal that they sleep way more then the average younger person. But as I remember clearly while working with the elders years ago they also need a bit of exercise and or stimulation. Does not mean walking much, more like sitting upright in the bed with some form of activity like TV and or crafts.
I personally don't feel they should sleep 24 full hours they do need some mental stimulation.
