Is it safe for a pregnant woman to travel long distance?

My family is planning for a land trip next week and I guess it will take us about 10 hours to reach our destination.I'd really love to go with them because I wanted to cheer for my sister who will be competing with other swimmers from different provinces in our country. I'm just worried if it is really safe for me to go or it would be better for me to just stay at home? I'm four months pregnant right now.I don't like to ask my doctor if I can go because maybe she will not allow me. My husband is also very concerned about me and my baby because I easily get dizzy when my dad drives the car. Anyone who can give me some advice?

For me, if it is not risky for you to travel why not travel, and if your pregnancy is safe i mean your uterus is well and you have no problem about it since the day you know you are pregnant maybe you can, but if your not sure about your condition you must be better go see a doctor and ask for some advices they know better. But come to think of it, it is between your sister's support or the risk of your baby and youself.

I'm really confused at this moment but I think the doctor will have the final say if I can go or not. If I cannot go with them, it is okay for me. I'm sure I will not enjoy if I just keep on worrying about my safety and my baby.

Many warm congratulations to you on your pregnancy purple2sie! Since you are already into your second trimester, you should have not much problem with the travel. The first and the last trimester, that is, first 3 months and the last three months are when you should be really careful. Since you will be going by the car, you can always stop every two hours for some rest and leg stretches. That will ensure you do not stress yourself much and there is no swelling on your feet. If you have absolutely no other complications and are having a generally good health even during your pregnancy, I think you can undertake this journey. Whoever is driving, I think you said your father, you and others with you can make sure that he is driving with extra care and not speeding beyond safe limits for you. Go by all means, but only if you and your husband feel confident! Otherwise explain to your sister gently and with your condition, tehre is no way she would not understand.

Yes that is the best thing to do. Consult your doctor first and then decide! Also keep in mind that being pregnant should not keep you away from doing things that you enjoy and want to do. Do by all means, but be careful and cautious and be safe. All the best to you!

Hi! I have read one article and it says that it is generally safe to travel as long as you don't have any complications. I'm on my 16th week so I guess it will be safe for me to travel. Just to be sure,I will consult my doctor first. I really appreciate your advice and I will take note of that.

When my wife was pregnant we did a lot of travel, however she was a good traveler and used to it. If she was not comfortable with traveling I would not have taken her. Wish your sister well and tell her maybe next time.

I think that you should talk to your doctor first. Your doctor may be in a better position to tell you. Sometimes, it is normal for you to get a little dizzy. I took the train the other day, and I have to admit that looking out the window made me a little dizzy. So I can understand that it is normal. But you should still talk to your doctor and figure out the best way to do it.

At first, I was hesitant to seek advice from my doctor but now I realized that is the best thing that I should do. I'm not afraid what will be the outcome as long as it is for the sake of me and my baby. Your advice is much appreciated.

I am not so sure whether- maybe you an just ask another doctor? As long as you are okay, no complications and no more morning sickness and dizziness. I found a website which has more information.. http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/travel.html

Friend early 4 to 5 months no problems but 7 months after it is very risky. You are 4 months pregnant then no problem because I remember when my bhabhi completed 5 months they she went to long distance journey she not faced any problem. But you are not fit and you are weak then concern your Dr. and take suggestion.

Hi! I'd better consult my doctor just to make sure that it is safe for me to travel. I want to have peace of mind and be worry free during our travel. Otherwise, if I feel it's not safe for me and my doctor will advise me to stay at home then so be it. Thank you my friend!

Early pregnancy like 4 to 16 weeks a lady must be careful and traveling on a long journey at that time wouldn't be wise. The best time to travel in pregnany is after 16 weeks and before the last trimester. I traveled on a 12 hour flight when I was 18 weeks pregnant and felt fine. I would advise you to stay at home because you tend to get dizy in your dads car. You need to take care and it is your first pregnancy. Good luck if you do decide to go.

I really need to be extra careful because this is my first pregnancy. At this point in time, I'm not yet decided whether I will go or not. I'm just praying that whatever my decision will be it is for my own good and for my baby.Thank you for your advice.

Since you have a trip by car, so perhaps it is better than going there by air plane. However, it is a long time. So you will feel very tired. I suggest you to have some stops during the journey. Such as having a break when your dad drives a few hours or even live in the motel for a few hours to take a rest. Go around for sightseeing for a while. Make this trip easier and I think it will be fine for you. I love China

I was planning to go there by plane but the problem is the nearest airport in that place is 4 more hours travel by land. I'm also worried because all them will go by land and I will be traveling alone if I decide to take the plane. You are right! If I will go with them, it is better to take some rest every 2-3 hours.

I suggest you stay for the sake of your baby and your health....10 hours travel can be very exhausting and if you easily get dizzy then you might not enjoy too. Your sister will understand your situation and if you'll ask her maybe she'll answer no too. Be safe!

Its better to consult your doctor first, if you are not at risk in your pregnancy, it's just right because you are using your own vehicle, you can stop anytime you wanted. When I was pregnant, my doctor's gave me medicine to take for that situation, as if duvadilan but i'm not sure about it , so better see your doctor for proper prescription.

Actually, my doctor prescribed Duvadilan when I had spotting during my 11th week. I observed if it will continue but then it eventually stopped, so I did not take the medication anymore. I was advised to take some bed rest and thank God, no more spotting. Yeah, it is better to really consult my doctor about this trip. Thanks!
