How do you have fun in life while being a successful worker?

I feel that people who are successful are very very busy. Sometimes business is like a 24 hour job, so how do you manage to have fun with family and friends everyday when you have people calling and asking for your help all the time?

Oh gosh although I loved what I use to do I can tell you from experience that my last job consumed my entire life for several years. I was expected to be available 24/7 and always received the havoc late at night and or had to work even during any time off.
Although I loved my job I truly would not want to do it again because life is short and the years I lost will not come back.

true, I was a slave for school throughout high school and I didn't have any fun. All that just to get into a college where everything is just the same as it was in high school. People here are actually more stupid than the people at my high school so I don't know why I worked so hard.

Sorry to hear this my friend and I was exactly the same. I too was way over dedicated with studies during high school and college and never had any fun at all. It was not until after 25 that I actually had any sort of "fun". Do try and have a little fun, I married right out of high school and missed out on a great deal.
Although I have no regrets, still I don't know what it is like to be a happy teen and or young adult.

I think you need to be able to cut yourself off from work.Your family need to have time and fun with you also and if you spend all your time focused on work it is not good for you or your health or the relationships you have at home.If you have young kids the time you spend with them will leave a lasting impression and if you are always on the job they will think you neglected them later on in life.It is hard if you have started a business or something because time spent could make or break it.Success is measured in more than wealth. Success is being a good person, good parent and finding a way to enjoy and make the most of what you have got. Many off the richest people are unhappy and have big problems.

yes, one must prioritize. I think of all the family movies, like Liar Liar, where the dad or mom decides the child is more important than the job, so they risk their job to go to the child's school play or something.

I think part of being a successful working is learning to balance your life. You can reduce your work load by giving some to other people. You can say you will work a certain amount of time or until you hit a certain amount and then you are done for the day or the week or whatever you want. I think if you only work that you will at some point go crazy and you won't be as productive or as successful because you aren't happy.

i think you just have to love your job. When you tend to love your job, you start to enjoy it, and next time you know, you're already having fun. Appreciate what you have, appreciate your job, and you'll find out that it's fun being at work.

that is the best job to have. one that doesn't even seem like work because it is something you want to do.

i think it's all about setting your own priorities in life.. once you already know your priorities then you can start to manage you time better.. too much of something is and will always be bad.. that's why it is still important to relax and unwind may it be you're alone, or you're with your friends, family or significant other.. it keeps the balance.. ;)

yes, it's easier to do if you have a part-time job or a job that gives summer vacations, like teaching. but i can't imagine having a job with so many responsibilities that there is no time to spend with family and to enjoy the simple things in life.

I can't say I am successful in my career since I really didn't reached the top of the corporate ladder. But I am happy with my job right now. Getting at the top can prove to be too stressful for me and I may lose quality time with my family.
My husband and I have an agreement that we shouldn't take work at home. When we go home, we leave all work-related issues at the office. You see, how many hours in a day would you actually spend it with your family? I am off the house even before my son wakes up. And currently it usually takes me 3 hours to travel from work to our house because of traffic. I would be home so late that I can only manage 2 or 3 hours with my child to bond before we sleep.
We also make sure that we have a yearly vacation. We only travel locally to the different tourist spots in my country. Our family always looks forward to our annual trip. It is our way of rewarding ourselves and just have fun.
