Sri Satya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi, a village in the state of Andhra Pradesh,India, left his body for the heavenly realms this morning, 24th April 2011 at 7.40 am.Having millions of devotees not only in India but in each and every country of the world he exerted a great spiritual influence on all those who came in contact with him.From top world leaders, politicians, Industrialists, scientists, intellectuals, artistes,sportspersons, to the commomest of the common people all were drawn to him and became his ardent devotees. Born in the village of Puttaparthi on 23 May 1926 he was given the name of Satyanarayana by his parents.Till the age of 14 he was a normal child but a little withdrawn and deeply religious. At the age of 14 he suddenly declared to his parents and all his relatives that he was the incarnation of Sai Baba of Shirdi, a small town in the state of Maharashtra, who lived there until the year 1918.Before passin away Shirdi Sai Baba had said that he would return in another body and form after a gap of 8 years, which he did, in the form of Satyanarayana.After declaring his incarnation Satya Sai Baba started doing the same miracles which his earliar Avatar of Shirdi Sai used to do.As his fame grew many sceptics derided him saying that he was a fake and a charlatan but slowly and gradually even they were ultimately convinced that he was really the incarnation of Shirdi.Through his miracles which are too numerous to recount he attracted devotees from all over the country and also from abroad.He did a lot of philanthrophic work through his ashram or spiritual centre known as Prashanti Nilayam in Puttaparthi.He tried to inculcate the dictum of peace, love and selfless service to mankind and exhorted all his devotees to rise above caste,creed and country and establish love for all in the hearts of man.He was admitted into the Superspeciality hospital at Puttaparthi which he had established to give free treatment to all and sundry, in a serious condition on 28thMarch 2011.He had multiple organ failure and was kept on life support system since then however to the great grief of all his followers he passed away this morning.Since the day of his being admitted in the hospital thousands of his devotees had arrived at Puttaparthi praying for his recovery.Prayers were also being said at all the centers in all countries where his devotees lived.Though Satya Sai Baba has gone from our midst ,his message of love all,serve all will continue to inspire his devotees to work harder and to make this world a heaven on earth.OM SAI RAM.R.I.P.
