Living on water

Are we coming upon the days where living on water will be just the same as on land? Would you ever want to live on a boat or a home on the water. I came across this freedom ship http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1k3NIz/www.freedomship.com/. you are supposed to be able to live there and work there and all kinds of things. Like a little town on the water. I personally think I would get a little sea sick. I have never been on a cruise or anything. Would you ever consider living on a ship like this. I fear one day we may have no choice. Anythings possible. What do you think about a water world, or living on the ocean as a permanent residence? Please share your thoughts, fantasies, predictions and anything else.

First thought - this freedomship is never going to exist! Well perhaps I'm wrong, we'll see. Living on the water, no matter what kind of boat you have, is just as expensive as living in a house. Sometimes more so. You just can't "park" a boat anywhere. It will always cost a lot. Then electricity, gas, etc. are the same. That's all without moving! Regulations - ugh! - limit you as well. Can't have longer than 7 meters LOA or you need a license to drive the damn thing! The water is just a dream that quickly becomes a nightmare.

Yes I do think it would be expensive. What do you think of things like the man made islands, like in Dubai? People are building all kinds of different homes these days. Lots of people live on the water in small boats. I could see cruise like ships becoming like condo homes. And I could see it becoming more common. And when there is more of something doesn't it then get somewhat cheaper? I am not an expert. I have never even bought a house :)

A couple of points to mention. First, if land is reclaimed from the sea, who owns it? And how can they sell it to you? Second, there are plenty of cruise ships here and not enough tourists to fill them, but I haven't seen any cabins to rent yet. Yes, I'm a renter, not a buyer!

Wow, i don't know about getting sea sick, but i'd pretty scared. It can be such a hazard, specially when their we'll be more vulnerable to scary tsunami's, dark storms and similar natural calamities. wobbly motion would be so hard to get used to and what about not seeing much greens and stuff. I eat non veg, though i'm planning on quitting, but i for some reason don't wanna taste fish and such animals living in water. Its like a phobia.

I mostly lived on a cruise ship for two weeks. Unless the seas are very rough, most people don't get seasick. We did have one family on board, the entire family was sick for the 2 weeks. I felt sorry for them. My Mother and I had all kinds of fun. The ship barely rocked, it was like a huge hotel only built laying on its side. We were in very calm waters. I can't tell you what would havppen if it were stormy because it was beautiful every day for the 2 weeks.

hi, i had a movie that i watched and the title is "water world" and they only lived at the boat.as i observed people still need to be lived in the land because of many resources while when in the water is lack of resources or limited only.and i think its more hard to live in the water, what if there are thunder storm and tidal waves.scary right.

I've always wondered about living on the ocean. It would be strange! I guess as long as I knew I could get back to land when I wanted I'd be ok with it. I've always wondered about underwater cities as well.

FreedomShip sounds amazing. I don't know if I could handle it, even though I do love the water. I think I'd rather live on land on the shore of a beautiful lake somewhere.

I am sure this will happen one of these days and people will not have a choice in the matter. I think the earth is already 85% covered now. We have had alot of rain here lately too and that is not helping any. I could live on water I guess, if we had to.

i have been doing a lot of research on living as cheaply as possible and have seen different sites where they say living on water is way cheaper than living on land.

I've always thought it might be interesting to live on water. I don't think I would want to live on something like that, but just a small boat. Sail from port to port or something like that. I imagine the freedom a life like that would offer would be quite cool to be able to have. Cheers!

I think that for me I would be able to spend some period of time on the water, like going on a cruise as an example. However, I also don't think that I would be the kind of person that could make a permanent home on the water. The reason that I feel this way is because of the fact that I really like the feeling of having solid ground under my feet. It makes me feel a lot more secure than being on a boat, despite the fact that I love the water.

Don like water prefer desert. - Water is cool i don like cold.
I hate water because i can't swim properly and float like titanic and will sink down to the bottom.I hate the cold of the water and such, and don like to see my skin mess up with salt water or too much water. However, i do like to drink alot of water to prevent heaty body and dehydration.Hence living in ship i don like, i prefer live in desert but with water supply because i like to play with sands.

I think in practical terms, this freedom ship will never come into being, but I have to admit I love the idea behind it! Imagine being able to travel the world whilst going about your everyday life! That would be amazing! I too, have never bought or owned my own home, but I love the water, and would love to live on the water too. Having been on a mini cruise, I enjoyed every minute of it and was sad to see it end. The downside to living on the freedom ship I think will be boredom. I mean how many times can you see the same things every single day, and not get bored? If you live on a boat and you're in the middle of nowhere, it's not like you can just get off and take a break is it?
