Yuck! We noticed a week ago that our dog has fleas! Does anyone have any suggestions for natural treatments, or really anything that works well. We have both carpet and hardwood floors and I am worried that the fleas will jump into the carpet and get onto the children. I went ahead and bought a flea collar which I think has helped, but I just found a flea in the carpet. I just can't handle having a huge flea problem. Thank you for any suggestions!

Frontline is good for fleas in my area. There are a few other good brands. Buy whatever the vet recommends from him. Never buy Hartz. It kills animals.

The best is to buy a spray or ampulet from you vet. Do not use Hartz. Vacuum carpets and furniture every day. Mop every day. Wash his bedding at least every few days. Buy a flea comb and comb him, removing the fleas one at a time. If you have a yard, spray that with something that will kill the fleas, but not harm other animals. It takes a while, but it is doable.

Dog shampoo with oatmeal, and do it about once a week to once every two weeks.
Use a pet friendly powder carpet remover and vacuum the carpet twice a day (one in the morning, one at night).
swiffer the hardwood floor as well. Within a couple of weeks, the little fleas will go away.
