Recently, my in-laws found out after coming home from my father's house during the burial that their dog was dead too. They don't know the reason because they left the dog to be in good health. Maybe it's the very hot temperature in our country during summer which weakens the dog and maybe it has a heart attack. Because of this, I thought of our own dog who is older than my youngest daughter, maybe 10-11 years old. She was getting old and I thought it is timely to get a new dog. Last year, I tried of getting a new puppy but my old dog is so jealous and I feared of she might harm the puppy so I give it to my sister. I just hope that this time my old dog would not be jealous.
My old dog has been a very good company to us. She had saved us from a snake which apparently dropped from a tree of a neighbor. She barked loudly until my husband have to wake up and see what it is and found a snake which he killed through using a big wood. Our dog had also caught and killed several mouse which is trying to enter our house. She was a Philippine native dog but i think she has a hunting skills. She also acts as our door bell as she barks loudly when there is a stranger/visitor in our front gate. And lastly, she was the play companion of my daughter whenever she wants to play in our backyard. I think dogs are very important in every household.

We have a 4-year-old Shih Tzu and we love him very much. He is already a part of our family. Every time we arrive at our house, he always greets us in our front door and gently nibbles at our feet; which I really find nice. My mom treats him like his baby. I believe that dogs are very important in the household. They bark when a stranger enters your house and they are basically stress relievers. :)

Shih Tzu and other kind of smaller dogs are indeed very cute and yes, I will treat them like a baby if ever I got one. Though taking care of such dogs are very expensive and needs a lot of attention. But the happiness that it gives to each one of us is sufficient enough for all the investment.

They say that the dog has as much intelligence as that the three years old child has.I cann't test and verify it,but I think that the dog is very smart and may well say that It is good at watching master's every mood.I have bred a dog that is eight years old.Its attitude toward members of our family varies from person to peraon. It seems that it particularly like my son, granddaughter and my wife.As for me,It gives a wide berth to me,because I often berate It.

I would have to agree, I think dogs make great additions to a family--we have 8 of them, all different sizes and ages. I wouldn't trade them for anything.
As for the puppy problem, if possible put the puppy in a place where the two can sniff at each other for a while without actually getting to each other (this could take a few days). Once your old dog accepts the new pack member (the puppy) then there shouldn't be a problem ... however, there maybe dominance issues (fights) until the older dog establishes that it is the alpha. Don't let these fights get out of hand, you are actually the alpha to the older dog and what you "say" goes. I hope that makes sense.
If you are still worried about the older dog attacking the younger one, then maybe just wait until the older dog passes on and get a puppy afterwards.

Thank you for the advise. I am really having a problem with introducing a new puppy in our house that's why we have only one dog. I do love my old dog but I know for a fact that he will soon pass away and we need a replacement. I think I have to get a cage for the new puppy in case we got a new one.

i agree. dogs are truly man's best friend. we also have a dog in our condominium but we have to transfer them to another house since it's so hot in our condo. seeing them each day brings us joy and comfort. even when we are stressed, patting or walking our dogs make us feel happier.
