I have been reserching this topic from the last few weeks and have got an average experience. People buy domain names thinking of unique words and sell it someone later for quite a fortune.
For example if you had bought a 4 letter domain some years ago you could sell it for above 500 dollars. Think of a unique .com domain name and buy it and sell some years later. Its amazing. Like property. Buy and sell for a much higher price. People buy from godaddy or other registrars and sell in sedo or domain parking sites.
What do you think ? Does any of you do it ?
What are your experiences ?

I actually haven't heard that type of transaction-- buying and selling of domain names. Selling it for as much as $500 is quite huge profit. I have a question, how much will it cost to maintain a domain name? Do you have you to pay for it monthly?

I see. If I'll purchase a domain name now, i'll only spend $10 for the annual fee. If I decided to sell that domain name for at least $200, $180 profit is not bad income. I'll start thinking of a unique domain name then I'll sell it haha :O

Domain names are purchase on yearly basis. A .com domain name will cost you around $10 a month.

My domains were registered seven years ago. I have them, will have them forever, and wont be selling because I'll never get a chance to find similar ones again! They have 6 letters, and are the name of a software product (which I didn't know at the time), but no one wants to buy them.
Domain names aren't that important - you just have to own one - any one!
When I was last looking for a good name, I tried everything that came to mind. It was the Muslim Eid, so I thought of deadgoat.com - gone! (It's a pub somewhere.) Thatsridiculous .com .net all gone!
I don't think you are going to find anything valuable that hasn't already been taken.

Thats not the case entirely, you can still find valuable domain names today also that hasn't been take already, but, you just need to be more creative in thinking of names. Its difficult to find valuable domain names but not impossible!!

thunderfire i agree with you as its still possible to get good domain names now by researching/brainstorming or looking after expiring domains, etc. Domain names are quite valuable but there are also loads of people owning bad domain names in bulk and having nowhere to sell. So two sides of the situation.

Well i have heard of it but you need a lot of research and chance for you to be successful.
Domain parking is the easier route but i don't know how to research domains. Well they say some parked domains get $1-2 per day.

that sounds like a good idea, but like the above post, i would like to know what is involved in keeping the site until someone buys it? I tried to make a website once, and I stopped making payments so it is not mine any longer is it?

you need to pay 10 dollars to keep the site for an year.
You can buy the domain for 10 dollars(1 year) and then host it in free host like blogger or other free host. For paid hosting you pay around 4 dollars a month.
So you pay around 5 dollars a month if you have paid hosting.
or little less than 1 dollar a month for free hosting.
Thats for you.Bye.
