One of my friends said me that she's looking for a new job. She has registered her profile on Internet. She only sit at home to wait for employers calling her. She doesn't need to search companies.
But I don't like this way. If I want to look for a new job. I'll search companies which are recruiting my position. Then, I will visit there website to study more about them. After that, I'll apply. I believe that this way can help me finding the best suitable to me. I don't want to listen calls which I don't expect.
How about you?

I also do what you do. But, I have also deposited my resume in a jobfinders's site so twice, I have been contacted by a prospect employer. One of those two, I actually got employed by the prospect employer. But, I didn't stay for long because there was a better job offer.
I also like being referred by people I know. This way, I already know something about the prospective job.

Hey there,
Word of mouth is always a good way too because it also gives a bit more of a chance too.

Right. But not everybody can do that if they don't have much communication.

I have found new jobs in many different ways. Sometimes I call the place or show up in person and sometimes I use the internet. I think that the internet is a great way to find a new job, because there are many different sites where you can find a list of the companies who are looking for new employees. On most of those sites it is possible to do the same things as your friend did. You can create a profile and then the employers can contact you. I have never used that option myself. If I have to wait for the employers to contact me, I don't know how long I have to wait, and I don't like that. I prefer to be active and find the employers on my own.

It would save alot of time and gas if you did it on the internet. I would hate to run from place to place and sit at their business to fill out the application. I would only fill out the application for places I was truly interested in though.

Right. Choosing suitable companies before you go there is better than we go because a call. I must listen many unsuitable calls which I don't wait for. I feel very up set because them.

I do either way, I post my resume to websites and I also look for a job on the internet that qualifies me but I only receive very few calls and emails. I don't have time to visit the office or agency cause I am still employed but looking for better opportunity. Lately I receives call center job offer through phone but I turned them all cause I don't like that job.

I usually look on craigslist these days, because I am only looking for part time jobs to go with school.
I think going to internet job finding sites is the easiest way. But I wouldn't want to have people calling me either if I don't know when they're going to call.

So, you'll search on Internet and calling to employers who are suitable with your needs. Right?

I would always search in the local newspaper, and online for jobs. I don't think that I would like waiting for people to call me. One because I am not a very patient person, and two I would think that companies would find me lazy. I know that a lot of places want the employees to come to them, and to know more about them, then to simply pick from a stack of potential maybe's.

I am on disability and unable to work so it has been awhile since I had to find a job. Maybe I am just old fashioned but I think your way is the better way to get a job. Just waiting for someone to call you would be a lot easier but I don't think it would work as well. A lot of people are out of work these days and companies are probably looking for someone who would put out extra effort for the job. I would think someone just waiting for a call could be thought of as lazy.

I search on the internet too for new job opportunities however I research about them too, visit their website and also ask around about the company before applying. I also like to compare one company from the other so I could narrow down to one clear choice. If I don't get accepted with my first choice I'll go with the second best choice.

With so many people out of work these days sitting back and awating a probable phone call is not enough. One has to persist, but this meaning one has to scour the net and apply to all possible areas which are hiring and also follow through and make sure they actually did get the application and or resume.
No one in my opinion is going to find us if we do not look and persist. Often times one sending in their resume gets tossed into a pile and the pile gets higher and higher. If they even print the resume out. I remember going on careerbuilders and posting jobs there for my last company and getting over 300 resumes and applications daily to find that the majority were not even close to what we needed and deleting the enitre file to await for more the next day.
So simply filling out a profile in my opinion is not enough especially this day and age withg so many out of work, looking to land a job.

I do the same thing as you. To really look for a job, you need to know what's out there. Not just post you resume and hope you get a call. I looked for a job every buiness day by newspaper, internet and in person. It's a great idea to research a company that may become a potential employer. It give you a head start, from the other potential employees. You know the type of business you are appling for.
Ironically, the company I work for pulled my resume from the internet and called me. They like my work history. Easy to place someone like me was their comment. Best Wishes!

I prefer online job hunts. I just create my profile, pick the job that suits me and bid for the job. Its a lot easier, convenient and not time consuming.

like you, i use the internet to know more about the company and what they are looking for.. i think it is still best if you go personally to the company that i am interested.. :)
