I like to help other people. I have had to learn the art of teaching them how to fish while I give them a fish. I have had moments where I have fed, given a ride, a place to stay. And I have been burned by it. You kind of feel like an idiot after the fact. So I have had to learn how to discern and learn the difference of the ones that are takers verses the ones that are givers. Takers just take and leave you feeling like crap. Givers are the ones that appreciate whay they are given and they pay it forward. This for me is the true meaning of helping. " Teach a man how to fish, and he will not be hungary".

Helping others is a win win situation any way you look at it. I think one of the reasons people do help one another is the self gratification they receive from it. Of course, as you said, it helps the other person as well, so both people are better off and left with happiness. I think one of the benefits is the chain reaction you get when you help someone. After you help someone, that person is more likely to help someone else and then so on and so on. One good deed can lead to a lot of good deeds and a lot of happiness down the line which makes a happier and healthier society.
