Hi to all!
I suffered from Tonsillitis almost every month and my doctor advised me to undergo Tonsillectomy because it may probably cause a more serious complications. I am afraid that it may affect my physical well being as well as my gag reflex but he told me that there are no serious side effects when you removed the tonsil. But then i am still afraid to do so. I would like to ask if there are member's here who undergone the same procedure and what it feels like? I will appreciate responses from this thread. Thank you so much!

The cause is a bacterial infection viral infection streptokokuks or (more rarely). Tonsils are lymph glands in the mouth of the back (on top of the throat). Tonsil function helps filter out bacteria and other microorganisms as a precaution against infection. Tonsils can be 'defeated' by a bacterial or viral infection, so swollen and inflamed, causing tonsillitis. Infection can also occur in the throat and surrounding areas, causing pharyngitis.
If the cause is bacterial, antibiotics given by mouth (orally) for 10 days. If the child has difficulty swallowing, can be given in the form of injections. Appointment of tonsils (tonsillectomy) is done if:
- tonsillitis occurs 7 times or more / year
- tonsillitis occurs 5 times or more per year within 2 years
- tonsillitis occurred 3 times or more / year within 3 years
- tonsillitis do not respond to antibiotics.

Adults with repeated sore throats may benefit from having a tonsillectomy in the short term, but the overall longer term benefit is still uncertain, and any benefits have to be balanced against the side effects of the operation. The major drawback is the two weeks of sore throat after tonsillectomy, which can be harsh in many patients. Other disadvantages include the risks associated with an anesthetic, earache, dryness, and dental injures, and a danger of life threatening complications, such as major hemorrhage or sepsis.

My daughter gets Tonsilitis all the time. She was getting it once a month for a few months but it stopped for awhile and then she got tonsilitis again. They were going to take her tonsils out but she needed bloodwork done and no one ever got back to me about it. I am just hoping that she grows out of it so she wont get it as often. I dont like her having to take antibiotics all the time and I feel bad that she might go through the pain of having her tonsils removed.

I have not undergone the procedure but I have the same problem as yours.
I would have this fever every month. It would be even more financially advantageous to have my tonsils removed, because the cost of consultation fees and medicines keep adding up, but I guess I don't have the guts to go under the knife.
If you are having second thoughts on Tonsillectomy, try boosting up your immune system by taking multivitamins or vitamin supplements. Also avoid sweets, and drink water after eating.
I found out that I am not that prone to tonsillitis anymore when I became more conscious of my diet and food intake.
