As per my knowledge. the best thing about a digital photo is that we can manipulate it to the extent of our imagination. It mey be achieved through many software packages available in the market. Can we become a good digital photographer based on this?

Someone who uses software to manipulate a photograph is not necessarily a good photographer or will become one. They may, however, be a good digital artist.
A good photographer needs to understand the rules of composition, understand his camera and the limitations of the sensitive medium (whether it is film or digital) completely and be able to capture exactly the mood, effect or picture he sees with his eye.
Whether or not he uses software to enhance or improve the photograph, it is still the art of communicating what his eye saw and liked about the scene which is important and the post-processing is always secondary to that.
Digital cameras have both advantages and disadvantages for someone who is learning photography.
One of the advantages is that one doesn't have to worry about wasting film: one can take many shots at no extra expense and delete those which don't work.
Some of the disadvantages are that it is too easy and too cheap to take pictures, which leads to people not thinking enough about the shot before taking it. When one had to remember that every time you pressed the shutter it was costing you money, it made one very much more careful to take time to compose the picture and to get the lighting and exposure right.

You will always need a software to manipulate pictures. Doesn't matter how much you have worked in lighting, poses and etc, there always something wrong and light and exposure always need to be adjusted so the picture doesn't look like a regular picture. When you see a picture not manipulated seems very regular, but if you see other that is already manipulated, you will see that is exactly like in magazines, for example. All the pictures have at least one thing manipulated. And being a good photographer means having good ideas, good eye, softwares are only to improve pictures, you can't do a different picture with a software. So, doesn't matter if you have used Photoshop or not, if the photo is good, the place is good, the model pose is good, the general idea of the photo is good, you're a good photographer.

Inspiration, creativity, a good eye and can manage Photoshop is all that you need. I've been in fashion industry for a few years, I have many photographer friends and I always loved take pictures, but I always had a regular digital camera. Anyway, I always took really good pictures. You should love what you're doing and having talent. Also, have talent with Photoshop is important because you can improve much more your photos. But anyway, after a time and if your job is good and you want to work as a photographer, surely you will need a reflex camera, but if you're good with a regular, with a professional camera you will the best.

I don't think we can become a better photographer with a great camera. Good photographers know the basics and theory behind lighting, depth of field, and setting up the object of the scene.
