I recently post a discussion about quitting my job and finally i did it. Since I am only on a job order basis i don't have to write a resignation letter.
I went to the office of my supervisor to get my last salary and told him that am not going to continue working in the university anymore. He was shocked asking me why.
I told him that I am going to work in other place and I need to explore and experience everything but then this is what he told me "BUT THE PRESIDENT SAID THAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE IN FULL TIME GOING SCHOOL AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORK ALREADY YOU WILL HAVE YOUR SALARY AS IT IS.YOU ARE AN ASSET TO IN THIS UNIVERSITY " well am proud that, that is what they think of me however my decision is final and i said i thought of it already. and again this is what he said "WELL I AM NOT GOING TO LET YOU GO AND I WILL GIVE YOU ONE YEAR FOR THAT"
I was just thinking if they just give me the chance to teach which that is what I applied for not being a clerk only and just ignore me at the office i can do better. If they think I am really an asset why they didn't give me the job i want. Why they have to employ someone who is a fresh graduate for teaching position not me. They just put me as a clerk and dump lot of files in my desk.
I know i have signed the contract already as a clerk but they have the power to change that and now that i said i am quitting and saying goodbye they are not going to let me go and just give me one year to explore.
Well I don't have plan to go back already I have my own job and get a lot of stuff from it. I work on my own time and just a little more i can put up my own computer shop. They don't have anything to hold on to me because my contract already lapse so no worries at all. They can't just hold on to me. Aside from that I am applying for another job which is better and really in line to my course.

I think you should still file a resignation letter as a courtesy to the management. We do that here even if you are on a contractual basis.
With that, it would be clear that you resigned in good faith. Just make sure that you have a copy of it, duly received by them.
You see, if you plan to work to other company, your just saying you are resigning might be taken against you. Other companies do some background check and they might say not good things about you when they were asked.
It's best to still be courteous to the company you are leaving.

You should do what you want to do and not what he tells you to do otherwise you wont be happy. Just write a letter saying you are leaving and go and do what you want to do whether they like it or not. I have recently handed in my notice and they dont want me to go but you have to move on.

Personally sometimes jobs try to do this to people to make them want to think twice about leaving, and if they were not wanting to give you the type of position you were wanting, why should they suspect and want you to stay while expecting anything less? I feel you made the right choice by moving on, and it sounds like you are a lot Happier now as well. Sometimes we need to make changes just to see where we fit in and are really meant to be.
