Too Many Responds to Comment?

The other day when I started a new discussion asking on why I could not respond any discussions on Mylot, I knew just seconds after I pushed the Submit button that it was a glitch in the system and that many members experienced it. Despite of knowing the facts, many of my friends responded to the discussions and that really touched me. Those friends must had many other discussions to respond to, but they made time to respond to my discussions. I was not that active in making new discussions, so I guess it was their way in telling me that they thought of me.
After a full page of responders I looked for a way to stop the responders cause I don't want them to spend unnecessary time on mine. Then I remembered that people do not normally respond on a discussion that has already have a Best Response selection. I quickly chose a Best Response from the responders and I was glad that it worked.
Have you ever started an unnecessary discussion? Do you let it be responded as many as possible or do you try to stop it?

Well, over the course of the 4 1/2 yrs. I have been a member here, I have started many different kinds of discussions. I am sure many of them might not have warrented as many answers back like some of the others, but unless it was date or time specific a lot of times they continue to get responses back to them, even if a Best Response has already been chosen.
Personally for me it is quite interesting to keep up and see what people are writing and hey anytime I get a response back to a discussion even if it is older, it makes me feel appreciated for sure.

Yes, I feel appreciated when someone dig my old discussions and responded on them. I guess this is another of my silly reasoning , for I am famous with them.
You've been here long, so I guess you know better how to create a discussion which would attract many responders.

I have to say, I have never started and unnecessary discussion. I do remember once, I have a very popular discussion topic that I started. I didn't intend on it being as big as it was. The end result was I think 78 responses, I knew I could not respond to them all, so I just stopped lol. This was a while ago. Here and there I still find people responding. So I would just have to admit that I've never started an unnecessary discussion, but I did start a discussion that I didn't intend of being as big as it was. And no, i've never tried to stop people from commenting.

Hi Jen!
This was the exact thought which was traveling in my mind for the past few days and you just stole my thought and started a discussion on this issue. I also sometimes feel the same way. When I start a new discussion, I expect some good responses, however, when I do not get, I feel little bit disappointed and I also think that not many users are interested in the post. Sometimes, my perception and respondents’ perception also differs and I feel that purpose of starting the post got defeated. In these types of scenario I feel that I should award the Best Response sooner than later to ‘close’ the discussion so that flow of ‘responses’ should come down to minimal.

Hi Jeny!
Thanks for your kind words. Please do not under-estimate yourself; I believe that you are also capable of creating interesting discussions. You are very right that sometimes the users (read respondents) give us an unexpected shocking treatment; the discussions which we reckon are interesting and should elicit fair number of responses, draw less than expected number of responses and discussions which we consider as ordinary fetch huge number of responses. One cannot, therefore, predict, which discussion is going to appeal to users.

You can always make another one with a different angle, Deepak. How's that? I am sure you can do better than me in creating new discussions. I am just too lazy to think sometimes.
Yes, I understand what you say here. Sometimes we thought we created a good discussion but lol not many were interested in responding. At other times we thought we created a vain or less interesting discussion but were surprised that many responded on it. We'll never know. So it's best for me not to stop any members to respond. I should leave it that way...

I guess you are lucky to have found such wonderful friends in here It's really not about the best response or whatnots that determines if the discussion should be stopped being responded to or not. For most of use here its the fun and the interaction we get in a discussion that matters. A wonderful exchange of thoughts and ideas with one another makes a good and healthy discussion.
For me there are no unnecessary discussions, a question or an information could go a long way if the group of people that discuss or interacts in it are livelier and can really make a wonderful contributions on it.
I don't stop my friends or whoever from responding in my discussions actually I encouraged more people to respond in it but only time will tell if I can respond to them soon enough.

Yes, I am lucky. I have many good friends here and I hope I can be a good friend to each of them.
I've been here for about a year and I read so many discussions, even some are one liners. So I understand that every discussion counts, depends on the reader or responder interest. I should never stop or discourage others in responding.
I try to be as fast as I can to respond, unless it's weekends and that is my times for going as far away fro the internet.

Yeah I know what you mean this happened to be and I just became overwhelmed with how much responses I had to give back because I just couldn't get to everybody. I do feel bad, but hey it was to much for me to handle so I guess I will try to not post up so many discussions.

Hi Dear Jennyze! I think I too have read the discussion of yours! But it was already discussed by many members! So since there was nothing much to add to the discussion I didn't respond!
Well some times we may tend to post such discussions, which we don't do with any malafide intention! Since you have placed your ideas and invited others' ideas, I think it is fine! Let others respond to your discussion and accordingly you can respond back!
Mylot members are matured enough to understand which discussions are to be responded and which ones are not to be! So I feel it is best to leave it to them to respond!
So long I never faced any such situation , I really can't say what would I do! I am happy that after giving best response your responses stopped! But then let me tell you one thing that I still respond to a discussion which I feel is of my interest even the Best Responsehas been already selected by the memeber who hasposted it! LOL!
Thanks for the discussion!

Yes, I found out some members continue to respond even though such discussion has a Best Response on it. Some of my friends did the same on mine. And I also did some on several discussions. So, I guess we could never stop any members to respond to a discussion however vain a discussion is.
If ever you do the same, you will manage fine, as you are one of the mature members here. I don;t mean in age, though I am not sure how old are you, I mean intelligently.

Hello Jenny,
I agree it is not an easy task to comment back to all people when you get tremendous number of responses. But don’t you think it is always our pleasure to get huge number responses. Then how do you think that selecting the BR will stop the replies. It (resolved topic) never stops me to write a reply if the topic is interested.
Ok in your case, that problem faced by all of the members here so everybody wanted to comfort you and explain their experience to you. Your topic is not an unnecessary one like the way you think. Unnecessary topics never get any response; please keep this in your mind dear and be happy.

Sreekala, you are a good friend. Yes, you are right unnecessary topics never get any responses. I like the way you view it. I would keep that in mind next time.
Like you, I would not stop responding even with a discussion that has already a BR as long as it is interesting to respond to and I have time to respond.

jennyze too many responds to comment, just do as many in a day as you can as we all did you the honor of responding to your discussion. jen you do not have to do that all in one day. why on earth would you want to stop people from responding as its there to respond to.I relish the more the merrier and I do not give best responses until at least a week has gone by so all my friends have time to respond if they wish, that time is what mylot admins itself says is best to wait. I do not know exactly what you mean by unnecessary discussion unless you are saying you made s discussion on a topic already discussed? I never try to stop people from responding to mine, why should I? I am totally confused to what you mean but am glad people did respond to you I let people respond and how on earth could I stop anyone, I am really puzzled by the way you worded
this. in fact I believe its wrong to try to stop people from responding to any discussion as once its put out there we are free to respond to it and nobody can tell us we can not.You must not try to stop anyone from responding to yours or to anyone elses.

You know sometimes I have the weirdest reasoning. Since I am active in responding to the many discussions my friends here posted, I do not want them in return to feel obligated to respond to any discussions of mine. So, when I started a discussion that was at the same time discussed by others (not intentionally), I felt that was an unnecessary discussion I posted. I should have waited for others to post the discussion and not created it myself.
You are right, the more responses the merrier and it shows how successful we are in creating a new discussion. Why didn't I think that way?

Jenny...
What are you talking about? Wasting time responding to your discussion ? Why ? Don't, even for a moment, assume that i would stop responding to you even if you have resolved the discussion already, okay...
Oh, and i think about you... A lot.....

Hello Jennyze,
I have started some question and answer discussion when I was looking for something specific, and in these discussions I give a BR when I am satisfied by a response, sometimes after a few hours only : as you said it generally dissuades other members to give a response. I am not looking for many responders, but I feel honored when I get many, and I would not stop a discussion... because it is popular. I know it can be boring to respond to everybody when the responses are not varied enough to be pleased to do it, but I think that my responders have made an effort to give me a response, and that I have to make the same effort for them.

Yes, I should be grateful, right? In a way, I am grateful, really am. Maybe, I should have created the discussion under Question and Answer at the time, or just PM some friends to find out what happened. Well, it was done and I could not redo it. Anyway, seeing how others see me as 'weird' for wanting to stop friends to respond, I guess I am weird...

Hmmmmmmm unnecessary discussion no I think my all discussion is informative and true incident. I observed my most of the discussion is on the top list it means I received a mylot digest mail from mylot and my discussion is also there like if you are seen then yesterday was "Is computer is necessary for child", today is "Upload picture and earn money" previous some days ago "Why cyber crime is increasing day by day" etc.
So I put only one or two discussion per day but that is informative and mostly I responses more than 10 daily.

I'm just new here in mylot and I haven't started my own discussion yet. I just reply to an existing discussion and enjoy reading other members comments. I can't think of a good topic for now that is why I haven't started a discussion. If I'll be having the same situation wherein many people replied to my post, I won't stop them and let them reply if they're enjoying it.

Definitely I think that since everyone has played a variety of topics that were not discussed much but over time you learn. The more one reads and writes more good discussions started.
Have a nice day!
