We have too many telenovelas

Telenovelas are there on primetime. They're also in the morning and afternoon. Even if you don't want it, chances are, some members of your household do watch it.
I thought democracy is having a free choice.
That's why I consider TV Patrol as a commercial, a space-filler, not a TV program. It's because it is the only 1 hour break (the dividing line) between the soap operas of the afternoon and the night.
Then we have the telenovelas on the EDSA buses from Baclaran to Monumento. The bus drivers don't change channels and in the morning, we have all those idiotic Tagalized cartoons that nobody in the bus is watching anyway.
The telenovelas are also in the buses plying the San Pedro, Laguna to Manila route and vice versa.
There is no more choice for us who don't want it. And there is no Law prohibiting this.

warrior, given good telenovelas, I am sure you would also watch it. The problem with our local networks is that they produce so much tearjerkers, remakes, and trite horror flicks the formulas of which had been proven profit earning a generation ago. Example: Captain Barbell was a hit not long ago. Again, we see Captain Barbell now starring Richard Gutierrez whose acting had even become .
What you are looking for is some innovation on Philippine drama which might even carry the whole viewing public to the next level...
We are all fed up with commercialized idiocy. Surely the producers are underestimating the people's intelligence. They think they are feeding us entertainment because one young girl cried hysterically over the demise of a character in Mara Clara. Time to prod the showbiz people that we are looking for good programs, real good actors, and fine scripts...
There is a saturation point. When the ratings drop, the networks will brainstorm again... I do hope that they come up with good shows..

I'd like to clarify that I think not all telenovelas are bad. And yes I do watch at times. I just forgot to mention this the last time :)
I like the American soaps more (Sunset Beach, Days of our lives, etc) because they focus more on the action: the many methods the villains employ just to hurt the hero.
Mari Mar was also like this. Its alternate title can be "How to steal your enemy's land via the Casino". Sugo was like this too. It seemed that Richard, Apo Abukay and the rest were playing hide and seek all throughout. Ironically, they were safer inside Abukay's castle because they could hide in the rooms. I was surprised there were no crying scenes here.
Then there was Encantadia, the best our showbiz could offer. What started as a ripoff of Lord of the Rings quickly became a creative opus. I liked it when Etheria turned into a time travel story. It became as complex and looping as Back To the Future and I perfectly understood why some scenes repeated themselves :)
But then again, after a moment of triumph, showbiz people shot themselves in the foot again and came up with that ugly "Atlantica" which was a rip off of DC Comics' Aquaman. No wonder it didn't last. So now we're back to the tearjerker days of Mara Clara. Maybe they should resurrect ANA LUHA (I mean Ana Luna) and earn more bucks.
And before I forget, it looks really disrespectful for them to revive Mula Sa Puso and Mara Clara when the original stars are still active. That's Claudine's and Juday's signature projects. It's as if they're slapping them in the face saying "We could do a better version of your show!" Really? The revivals suck.
Well that's it. Happy viewing. Oh before I forget, I like Richard's new Black Capt. Barbell Suit. They should sell that as merchandise, along with those little barbells. Now if they remove all the talkative tinderas and ugly squatters' areas in that series, and add Ayala Alabang type of houses and Makati Skyscrapers, maybe I'll watch.

I rarely watch local shows and telenovelas are the biggest reason why i don't. I am little frustrated why there are telenovelas in the morning, afternoon and evening. There are at least 5 telenovelas in a day and if you count up all the tv channels, that's 20 telenovelas in a day.
