Maybe the question is "why are senior citizens ignored"? And I'd say the answer is that youth is incredibly arrogant. That's not a slam because I was once one of them!
The fact is that when one is young, health is forever, money will increase, true fulfillment is just around the corner and nobody is really evil. At least that's what you believe. As you age, you realize that you cannot continue to abuse your body without serious health consequences, money comes and goes regardless of how well you've prepared, there is never a complete fulfillment that is permanent unless it's in God and the world holds many truly evil people who think nothing of crushing whoever is in their way.
All of this to say that age brings wisdom, but youth "despises wisdom", preferring rather to live in a "now" world without ever thinking that what they do now will affect their tomorrows greatly.

In my surrounding neighborhood we live in we see a great deal of elders and might I say they are very well taken care of by their families. I live in a really nice neighborhood whereas many are very kind and I can see that they care a lot about their families.
As any other place I am sure the elders in many areas do not get the respect they deserve. I do like my community though because it is very family oriented.

I am very close to being a Senior citizen. I agree that some people do not give the respect that seniors do, but others do.All people need respect.

Senipor citizens deserve our respect and they have earned it. ignoring them isa sign of disrespect and it is not something we should admonish. Paying homage to to our dear senior citizens of this world is something that we should encourage.

Anyone ignoring senior citizens? Who says we are ignoring senior citizens. In my country, we are focusing on the greying population. There are many things we do to help senior citizens become independent. Who are those helping out? The juniors, or youngsters in a way, fortunately.

Well there are many seniors also in the world which doesn't deserve respect and attention. Do a serial killer, terrorists who when turn senior are eligible for attention and respect? So the thread topic applies only to few and not all. Yes you are right that we all should respect the one who deserves them, because you never know what you will face when you get old.

Hi busybee10
There are elders who ignore and are disrespectful to younger people and vice-versa.
If you offer your seat on a busto a senior person, and they do not even say thank you or even give a smile to say thank you,the young person will think..wow how rude that senior person was,and next time will ignore another senior who needs to sit down, because of the ignorance of the previous senior, all I am trying to say is that there are things younger people can learn from seniors, and things that seniors can learn from youngsters..I hope this makes sense..it's still quite early here I am not completely awake yet...
Have a great weekend..

Hi! I have my fullest respect to our elders. I consider them as my own grandparents. I really have heart to them. Its hurtful to see that many of them are taken for granted. I hate stories that theyve left alone in a nursing home, not receiving visits for months even years. Whew!

i believe that we should take credit to our elders.. like what you have stated, they are the reasons why we are here.. it pains me to see many old people being neglected..
