Cockroaches exist because...

I believe that everything exists for a purpose. We humans have our purposes. Plants and animals have theirs, too. Ever non-living things are able to serve its purposes. But I also believe that in every rule, there is an exemption. Are cockroaches exempted to this rule that things exist for a purpose? I have always wondered why cockroaches exist. Honestly, I find them worthless. Share your thoughts regarding cockroach's purpose. On a related note: I have just learned that cockroaches can survive up to a week without its head on. So I guess the cockroach's purpose is to somehow "amaze" us with this fact. LOL!

I do believe in that too- which is why it also alarms me that some animals may be extinct soon.. But my mom would be quite happy if all the ants, sharks and alligators would be extinct. Cockroaches have lived in the time of dinosaurs, they were as big as our arms (scary) they are quite ancient and maybe they are of use to scientists..

Well, because we live in a tropical country so there are lots of ants here everyday, crawling on the table, the floor, the walls, sometimes, and it just bugs my mom.

Hi lady1993! Thanks for the response. I wonder why your mom would want ants to get extinct. Lol!

I've questioned myself many times what is the purpose for every living creature. I am sure each one has its significant purpose. Cockroaches are disguisting creatures as well as hairflees. Which I have been wondering what's their purpose are. I think we have to accept and respect each other sharing our planet earth.

Hi QeeGood! Thanks for the response! Yes. Acceptance. Besides, there is nothing that we can do to do away with them. On an unrelated note: I actually liked it when you said "...as well as hairflees." It sounds funny! Lol. :D

Well all the points are covered up by now. Food chain, indicators of the place being dirty or hygienic, indicators of climate change, wired and wacky little creatures which are annoying, rather could be used to frighten kids if they dont listen to parents. Their medicinal properties. They are been used in food articles and at last in FEAR FACTOR to make the life hell for contestants. They are certainly one of the oldest creatures in this evolution on earth. Like elephants, crocodiles they too survived the ages and adapted themselves for survival.

I also saw a documentary that made a research about cockroaches and mentioned that the fountain of youth lies in the DNA of cockroaches. I guess even the ickiest and most disgusting creatures have there purpose in this world.

Hi Andyvil: I didn't know that. So this basically shows us that, no matter how disgusting some animals are, their a great creation and we can learn things on their nature. ALVARO

"everything that exist has a purpose".... that's not a rule, so there's no exemption in it..it is a fact! i guess their purpose is to become "chicken feeds"! =D do you know chicken loves roaches..? additional trivia: i've heard this on a documentary. the only creature that can survive radiation from a nuclear explosion are roaches.. well maybe yes, somehow, their purpose is to "amaze" us! =D

Cockroaches exist to teach us patience. They also are good indicators of how healthy or unhealthy a certain environment is, which is helpful in choosing a good restaurant or a place to live. Aside from that these pesky little creatures may provide us cure for a certain incurable disease, much like penicillin which can be found in a certain fungi...

Hi hypocrite_hater! Thanks for the response. I think roaches does not teach me patience. Rather, it teaches me bravery. I think this is what is needed to kill them. LOL!

I just have to ask "What is a human's purpose in the life of a cockroach?". Presumably, we are something like earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanoes and tsumanis are to us ... inexplicable events which kill individuals. Don't forget that cockroaches (and many other insects) have been a successful species for millions of years longer than humans have!

I do agree with you that everything exist for a reason. Without cockroaches, we would no know what is call dirty, what is call irritating and what is call stubborn. Heard that cockroaches are stubborn and they adapt easily to any environment. TCM has it that cockroaches has some usefulnesss in healing. Of course, not ingesting it directly.

They (like any animal) are a part of the natural chain of things. Since they eat just about anything, they (e.g.) remove rotting matter that could choke plants and replace it with roach-poop, which puts nutrients back in the soil. Everything has a purpose, even if it's gross.

I also hate cockroaches, i consider them very dirty insects. I also cannot understand why they exist. My daughter once asked me why God made cockroaches and i didn't know what to answer. Aren't they included in the food chain of the animals? One observation i had with them is that, when its too hot and the weather suddenly turns cloudy, they come out and fly here and there. According to my aunt it tells us that they are upset because the rain is coming. When we transferred to a new house, i saw to it that the house is always clean and i told myself that cockroaches has no place in my house. I always throw garbage everyday and i even spray repellents from time to time. After four years, to my dismay cockroaches are crawling around the house already. How I wish they could be eliminated completely someday.
