What is the best way to manage distractions/get in the mood for doing homework?

It's really hard to do homework when you really can't be bothered and you have other things to do, like go on the computer/laptop and go out with friends.

That's very true. I find what works for me is thinking of the 8 weeks of summer I can hang out with friends etc but I have one shot at going to university which is the exams I'm revising for! Also try blocking sites such as facebook for a certain period each day. I don't know the names but there are applications that let you do this, such as block facebook between 7am and 7pm. by then you should've done enough to reward yourself. With the wanting to go out with friends, set 2 days/evenings a week that you definitely won't go out. Hopefully persuade your friends not to do much on those days! Then at least you'll have 2 days where you'll revise, and you probably won't do something on all the other 5.

Yeah, that's a really good way of thinking about it, thank you. :)

Hi, I believe you need to know what is important for you. after knowing that studies is more important, you would be more willing to study and put more effort into your studies. You have to remember that you can enjoy after your examinations. Studies takes only a few weeks. Wish you good luck

I find it hard to get motivated to study sometimes also. You might try by saying I will only spend half an hour on wasted time on the computer (what my brother calls "dumb-dumb" games) and then any other computer time has to be on something educational. Of course, my nephew is always asking can he have his "dumb-dumb" time, but at least he knows that he can't be on the computer 24/7 doing that kind of thing. As far as going out goes, set a goal of getting a certain amount done before you will take a long break or stop for the day. If you find that you are distracted by other thoughts, start by writing down what you are thinking about. If it is something that you can't do anything about, sometimes must writing it down will get it off your mind. If you set a goal each day on what you will get done, you may find yourself getting more accomplished than if you don't set a goal. And if you want to get your friends involved, perhaps you can set up a study group, especially if your friends have the same test as you do. Don't forget to take at least a short break every hour or so at least long enough to look out the window or somehow get your attention a little further out than your textbook. It would be refreshing and it might help you to feel more focused, especially if you are having trouble with some concept. You might also see if you can find a way to apply what you are studying in your own life. Good luck on studying!

I completely understand sometimes you rather do other things but you have to stay focused, and in the end it will pay off. Learn how to manage your time and sometimes you have to trick yourself to do homework. For example Im going to complet this assignment than I can go out with my friends, or after I study for two hours than I can have time to do what I want to do. I hope this helps.

Sites like rescuetime.com keep a track of your internet usage - so you can set a goal of eg 2 hours productive time or less than 3 hours wasted time etc, and feel good when you complete the goals for the day :) Going out, it's hard not to be tempted, but if you're good at revising with people, even convincing one friend to study with you can keep you focused so you don't spend all evening thinking "I wish I was at..." etc. Make sure to give yourself breaks - they recommend a break every 20-45 minutes, but I personally would rather do as much as I can then take a longer break. If you're like me, alternating subjects can help you regain focus when you've been staring at one question too long.
