Often the connection is never really broken. Life goes on but you've left a little bit of your heart behind. I have one of these, who I haven't seen for 40 years and never think of him until something triggers a memory and all of a sudden it's like we talk yesterday. Treasue these relationships, you don't get many like this in your lifetime.

My first childhood sweetheart and I are friends after 40 years. We care enough about each other to make sure how their family is. For some reason God found us not to be a couple, but we are firm in our generosity of our love of friendship to each other. HE is taking care of hi8 elderly parents while mine have passed. I am married and I do not hide our friendship. He is not a threat to our marriage. I have been greatful to know this person for over 40 years and have the blessing of friendship to each other that it lasts no matter what. I think there are some people that you really never lose feelings for. I think this is true for me when it comes to my first love/ex boyfriend. I don't have feelings for him in the sense that I'm still in love with him, I just still care about him despite being rather bitter towards him. It's hard to forget about someone you once loved, even if it's been months, years, etc.
