Vampire movies

Ok so I'm sitting here watching Twilight. After I have just watched 30 Days of Night. Now those are two very different types of vampires. But then I start to wonder when did we get types of vampires? Vampires are supposed to be vicious creatures of the night that feed on humans. They don't sparkle in the daylight or fall in love with humans while living a nice quiet suburban family life. So I'm wondering does anyone else feel the way I do. Quite frankly it's like Hollywood has defanged vampires these days.

that's right. I did enjoy the remake, and a lot of it was very close, but it just didn't have the same charm to it.

I feel like Vampires have really gone downhill in recent years. If you were to walk into the young adult section of any bookstore and pick fifteen random books off of the shelves, I guarantee that about 80% of them would be a Vampire Romance-esque novel in which the werewolves are the bad guys. All of this Twilight Sparkly vampire business has really put a hurting on using them as villains for horror novels because people no longer see them as pale blood sucking monstrosities they instead see them as Sparkly Misunderstood teenagers. I still stand by what I tell Twilight fans: "Vampires should disintegrate in sunlight and should die when you either lop off their head or stake them through the heart. Except Alucard. He's Special."

funny thing is, it was only a recent idea that vampires are harmed by sunlight. until the film Nosferatu, where the idea was first used, the idea was that vampires have no supernatural powers during daylight, but are not harmed by it. Dracula was quite capable of sunbathing, if he wished.

Nicely summarised. Vampires are bloodsucking evil creatures from myth/legend but since the 1960s they've become more and more romanticised. It's like antiheroes, flawed superheroes and all the other changes that we've seen as life's become more complex: people are no longer happy with "evil" and "good" - it has to be more complicated. Give me old-style Nosferatu and Dracula any time. I refuse to watch Twilight or have anything to do with it, simply because it sounds as if they've made it all like a Disney movie. Sort of like taking Alien and making the creature a Muppet.

Everyone was at a time "addicted" to Twilight. Already there was talk everywhere in this series, the movie, how cool was, Though the herd effect annoys me, I downloaded the movie myself. I was amazed, really! It's the most beautiful movie .. eveeer It has action, romance, and many more. Then I got my books, which are actually much better than the movie. We recommend, therefore, hand on heart twilight series, implicitly the movie.

Yeah they turned these mythical creatures into likeable ones. Actually even if they become the protagonist im not really a fan of these vampire series or movies.

I cannot agree with you more. Twilight is an abomination to vampire myth. I suggest you do not even consider Twilight to be a vampire movie, please don't. Even Harry Potter's vampires are vicious, ugly bloodsucking night creatures, not sparkly, emotional, shirtless, shiny hero vampires that climb trees.

Yeah, there are tons of versions of vampires now by diferent authors..and I kind of like some of them..since some are interesting but others are jut degrading.. Hollywood has defanged vampires literally, in twilight.

I have seen a lot of different vampire movies and they have lots of varieties now.. They are fictional anyway so it's really up to the writer how his or her vampire would be. I really don't like the idea of sparkling vampires too. I do agree that some Hollywood films have degraded their coolness, but some also did a good job.. I just prefer vampire series than movie- so much better.

Yeah I guess Hollywood tried to make twilight more of a romance than horror. I guess by him being a vampire it kind of made the move bring more fire to the viewers

most of the movies nowadays are vampires!..maybe, they are very imaginative and being so creative that they should make another vampire movies with different variation but still, its still vampires stories. .i prefer watching vampire movies like dracula and hit TV vampire stories before, Buffy the Vampire Slayer because in that movie they are not focusing more on the love story. i think, vampire movies stories today are kinda lame and same situations..i hope, hollywood would make another original hit that doenst involve vampires!
