Hubby is out with my son and daughter in law and granddaughter for 2 days for observing the ritual about tonsuring her hair on head. I am alone, though renters are here. These days criminals, anti socials are very active, theft, bag snatching is common. Most of them are unemployed educated guys, sometimes accompanied with girls. So I can’t leave home as such even for few hours under lock and key. What you do, if you have to go out and none is in home? Please respond and share your views. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. . God bless you to enjoy a lucky day ahead.

We have our dog inside and at the same you should have a burglar alarm, or let anyone of the renters to keep an eye on your room once in a while because you are alone.

Although we have a lot of unemployment and some crime, I am fortunate that there is not much in my town. I do not worry about my house or goods even when I am gone in the daytime. Right now, even if I am gone and my husband, my son is here to watch the house. I would not want to be so worried that I could not go out at all.

I would leave, but I would have someone checking on my pets. I would also probably call the police and have them watch extra.

I guess I am pretty lucky. There are very little breakins around my home. There is usually always someone home at all times. But if there werent, I might leave the lights on televisions on, and just some way of making it look like I were home. But if they are very clever and crafty it might be hard to trick them. I wish you the best!!

Well I am a little glad that we are in a guarded community so security problem is not that much of our priority. But outside that community, there has been reports of kidnappings and ofcourse robbery and such.

That is true. Criminals are lurking everywhere. So even if we have a security guard at home, I make sure not to leave the house for a very long time.

Hi Kalyni! Usually there is always someone stay at home to guard the house. But we always make sure that the door is locked. I still remember that a years ago there was a female stranger drunk and suddenly get into our house. Fortunately two of my sisters quickly hold her from entering the house and asked her to get out from there.

I live in the US. My home has Security System that could lock and monitor watch every second. So, I have no worry if someone try to break in. If so, they would call me right the way and police will be on their way to protect my home.

I don't worry about such things here. But if I go into an area in which I am uncertain of my safety I carry minimal things with my like my id & debit card and put them out of site like in your bra. And I would carry my cell phone as well. I would also go out during day light hours as more unsavory people are out and about late. Do you usually have someone accompany you to stores and various places?

If I had to leave the house, and no one at home, I'll lock the house, and asked the neighbor to occasionally look at my house.

I don't really do that very often, but every once in awhile I take my son out and leave the house alone. i just lock it up. But I do live in a pretty good area and do not worry about it too much. It is sad the way the world is becoming.

hi kal, guess the thieves are rampant these times due to poverty and unemployment. i live alone in my home and my only companion is a dog. when i leave for the office, i leave her inside the house to watch for who ever comes in. when someone foreign to her, she surely makes a lot of noise and might even attack whoever it is. my brother, sometimes my sister, are the only ones who can get inside the house with a key to feed the dog. other than that.. well, they shouldnt, or they are asking for trouble. ann

dear Kalyani, I can say that my place is still one of those safe place that i can leave our house open during day time. Usually when i go to the market or mall for few hours,i just leave my house open so when my kids arrive from school they can enter. but during night time,i always locked every door...there's a lot of bad things that can happen in the dark. So better be safe. Take care dear Kalyani

We lock our doors and windows. Then we will ask our closest relative who lives near us to check the house from time to time and seek help to town watchers. So that someone may look after our properties while we are away. Precautions is really necessary nowadays.

hi kalyni2011 actually here in Philippines this is already common, even morning the criminals are going to someones house and kill all the people there especially if they are girl's one night when i am watching a news a grand mother and a grand daughter die because of this they rub the house and the only person there is the the grandmother and the grand daughter knowing that it is morning, but still they kill them. When we go to the airport and fetch my cousin no one will stay at home so we decided that we will going to lock the door and some lights are open so that if there is a thief they will know that there is a person inside the house because of the light, in this days i know it is difficult to trust other person because of poverty and the economy is keep on increasing, we should take good care of our self's. every time we go and especially everywhere
