Old age - Hips are slowing down

I have mentioned in a previous post that my dog is pretty old for a lab mix - 15 yesterday - and I wanted to start a discussion relating to old dogs and what people find most effective for arthritis for older dogs. My dog is really slowing down - very noticeable over the past few months. I have tried medicines and other glucosamine types of treats but I am not sure how much they are helping. He still seems happy and is not whimpering at all so I don't think he is in too much pain. Still, it is sad to see this aging process rapidly occur, especially since I have had him since he was born - watched him be born actually.
All that being said, does anyone have any suggestions on things that have helped aging dogs with arthritis?
