What Do You Think Of Copies Being Made Of Kate Middleton's Dress?

Already there are copies of Kate's dress being made in China in double-quick time, ready for those brides who want to wear a cheaper version of it.
What do you think about this?
Personally, I loved my own wedding dress I picked about 2 and a half years ago and no way would I be swayed by "celebrities" regarding my choice. I just tried a few on and "Bingo!" found one that was ideal for me. It had beaded detail on it and still resides in its box..the most perfect dress I have ever worn and it's such a shame I can't wear it again lol.
However, I feel that no future bride will look as good as Kate did in her dress, no matter how thin they may be or how good the "copy" is. I like to be individual in my choices..well, in everything really and I cannot understand why there is a mad rush to copy someone else, it makes no sense to me.
Do you feel the same or does it not bother you that there may be a few "mistakes" with women insisting they're gonna look good when, in reality, their heart maybe ruling their head and they could be ripped off..in more ways than one?

The dress was so lovely it would be a shame if it were not copied so others could enjoy wearing it too. The Chinese are good at copying almost anything, and hopefully they can make a dress that will please many other young brides.AS Far as I am concerned the whole thing is silly! Who cares what the bride wears at her wedding.

I think that anything connected to celebrity has an appeal to some. Perhaps they think that by wearing a copy if the dress they will truly be a princess. Every bride is a princess if not a queen on her wedding day and doesn't need somebody elses dress to prove it. Good luck to those that wanr to wear it. Wasn't it similar to Princess Grace's dress anyway? Perhaps even Kate was caught up by the copycat thing! LOL.

You seem to be the only person here who noticed that, or at least thought it worth pointing out! I thought it interesting that Catherine chose a quite clear reference to the mid-fifties in not only her wedding dress but also the dress she wore for the party later.
I believe that most wedding dresses are, to some extent, derivative, even if they are not slavish copies. Almost every bride must have looked at pictures of dresses and said, "That is what I want to look like!" Usually (with the help of a good dressmaker) it works, sometimes it doesn't!
As the saying goes, "If the cap fits, wear it!" It worked for Catherine and could well work for many others (until it became so common as to be a 'uniform'). Looking at some of the headgear on display, however, it was apparent that 'being different' was not the most successful choice for some of the guests!

I agree with the comment about the hats! Some extremely poor ones on show apart from the Queen's and Camilla's.
I've seen better hats at Ascot which is quite ironic because many Royals visit that racecourse on Ladies Day.
Unfortunately, money doesn't always buy class does it?

Honestly, there are always those who want to look like someone else.
Granted, I've never had a wedding dress, and the best use I ever saw for one was the gal who wore her's to a costume party because she had just gotten a divorce and the theme was "opposites" I went as a "Jane Fonda" exercise person, about the last thing I ever will be! Didn't help that I was also sick as a DOG that day! I wanted to skip the party I was so sick, and the costume was sort of last minute since the former roommate really wanted to go.

Yes, I remember Joan Fonda in her "exercise" days. She wore some tight-fitting stuff didn't she?

Okay, I admit it...I watched snippets of the wedding (not when it was live--I was sleeping very soundly at that time of night)and was impressed with Kate's dress. What I didn't like was the neckline; that right there would keep me from buying a copy of it. Besides, even though I'm not yet married, I already have my dream wedding gown in mind, and it won't cost a fortune, as I'm planning to sew it.

Making your own wedding dress, how cool is that? Seriously, I am the world's worsed at sewing so good for you, I bet it will look stunning when it's finished.
Don't forget to post pics!

Hello, Janey. No way would I want a copy, because that dress was designed especially for Kate, which was why it looked so good on her. And let's face it, it's now the most recognised dress in the world, so added to the fact that the bride is going to look second best, everyone will know she's a sad soul who can't even look for a dress that suits her style.
An all-around no-no for me, but lots of people will want one, unfortunately. I can't see anything wrong with taking some of the style elements and incorporating them into a wedding dress - the deep V neckline would flatter almost anyone except Dolly Parton. However, a wedding day is special, and there's nothing special about a copied dress - and an inferior copy at that.

Hi Sandra, I agree with everything you say there my friend..and the Dolly Parton comment made me laugh. I'm trying to envisage her wearing that dress now..er, no, never gonna happen lol.
I shall always remember coming out of Mum's room in the Planet Hollywood to the lift taking us down to the mezzanine floor (where the Chapel is situated) and cleaners further down the corridor exclaimed.."wow, doesn't she look beautiful?!" so that was good enough for me. Total strangers endorsing my choice of dress.
I felt 10ft tall after that.

Hello, again. Yes, when somebody else says something like that, it's great. Something similar happened to me at my wedding, and it was the same choice of words - 'Doesn't she look lovely?' Nothing about the dress, just that I looked lovely, and that's so much nicer, because of course the dress is lovely - after all, it is your wedding dress. I was 48, short and a couple of stone heavier than I should have been, and this was my second wedding, but I felt like a film star after that remark.

In my own perspective, I would rather want to chose a simple wedding dress but unique though. I don't care if that dress is made like any celebrities that would really look me so trying hard to be one. lol

I absolutely agree! Regardless of the worth that celebrities can do to a certain wedding dress its meaning will always in top priority.

It would cost a wad load of cash to re-create the look properly. For a start, those ear-rings (bought by Kate's parents who paid a third of the wedding ceremony, apparently) were 12 grand!!

I think they want a touch of feeling like a princess, even if they are not. To me it shows a lack of creativity and imagination, but their wedding is their day. Some people feel like they get a little bit of magic by copying others who are well known or famous. Then, of course, there is our "celebrity" Jessica Simpson, who declares she is going to "outdo" Kate. Breeding will win out, no one can be as regal as Kate.

Actually I thought that her sister Pippa looked very good in that dress that she wore. Not very practical for walking though since it hugged her legs (and the rest of her) so closely!

Pippa looked amazing and elegant in that dress BUT she did have the figure to carry it off. There will be copies of that dress too but anyone with even a hint of belly on them..well, it won't work will it, not in white that's for sure.
Put it this way, I'm not putting my name down for one!

Do you ever watch Russell Howards Good News on BBC3 ? His last show had a feture on the wedding and some of the merchindisse was both funny and shocking. It is amazing what some will do to cash in!

Hiya Janey,
Way of the World I suppose. Right now they are doing Road Works right outside this very Door so I can hardly hear myself think and it will not be a two hour Job either.
In between the racket they were making on Friday although I recorded biggest part of the Wedding offered in Spanish of Course I was in and out of the Television Room seeing bits and pieces of it.
Also I was on Facebook a bit trying to guess what was the actual time they were getting married. I had to remember what time his Mom got married but someone eventually told me on Facebook.
Whys that? Well there were loads of details about everything except the time they were getting married which I thought was funny really.
So busy were they talking about her Dress what will it be like will it be like this or the other. They went on for hours about that and Days in fact.
When I did get to find out the hour I took time out to see bits of it and especially to see her Dress.
Thought she looked fantastic and the material was beautiful no denying that at all.
William was so handsome there and his brother too.
Have yet to sit down properly and see it all. You see with this noise well more like racket it´s really hard to hear anything properly.
Thank goodness I relied on recording it so I can take in the details another Day when they have decided to stop giving us this terrible well I don´t know.
Bet your Dress was wonderful as well. I did not have one could not afford one then due to other things that happened.
Would I like to get dressed up in a Wedding Dress you bet I would. I would love to model even if just for me I would not care about that.
So why can´t you wear it again? You could take some Photos as well.
Is it my imagination or have they made a Doll that looks like Kate with a Wedding Dress on?
I saw a Woman with one in her Hand and taking Photos with it all over the place. She said that she could not get to see because of the Crowds there so again the Television is just as good although the atmosphere would be more watered down would´nt it?
You take some Photos of yourself in your Wedding Dress.

Hiya Janey,
Oh I did´nt see Harry cry as William took Kate away then. That is so very nice and touching. Not at all like my Brothers would be with me lol.
Well the racket has stopped for a while thank goodness.
Well why not take them inside one of the Rooms? Or "borrow" one of your Friend´s House and take the Photos there.
Well if those People that you mention liked your Wedding Dress as you state down there somewhere must be worth taking Photos of.
Go on let your Hair down a bit and take those Photos. Or maybe you could Video yourself in the Dress. Don´t know what kind of Video you have but that could be an idea gal. Why not we only live once in this lifetime.

What a shame about "all that racket" my friend but you did a wise thing, recording it. Wills and Harry were very handsome weren't they and I know Harry cried when Wills whisked his bride away. Aww, they're so close as brothers which makes a nice change.
Mmm, a nice idea having photos taken of me in my wedding dress but, trust me, the surroundings of this house erm, don't actually "go" as it's so dull and depressing..the house not the dress.
Haha!

I don't worry about copies being made of any celebrities' dresses. It is a matter of course among designers to do "knock offs". Personally, I would not normally want one unless it was spectacular and cheap, so it's not gonna happen.
The mad rush just capitalizes on a public way too concerned with celebrity status and idol worship.
I think Kate's dress was just perfect for Kate. She wore it beautifully and it was extremely tasteful and lovely. It was classic and "classy".
Too many women are, in my opinion, choosing tacky, inappropriate wedding gowns that are not even attractive and are definitely ill-fitting. Not only that, they haven't even a sense of modesty. This rush to be "sexy" might more properly start in the bedroom, rather than in a church or at any wedding ceremony. Beauty shines from within and a dress should reflect that inner beauty, as did Kate's.
When I see these strapless, low cut gowns women are choosing on the TV programs about weddings, I am in disbelief. I think these women are wasting their money on what I would consider a "trashy", tasteless outward appearance which is not even fitted properly to give adequate coverage, much less the image of a delicate, feminine bride.
That's what I think.

Well done for opening up, I like that. You're right too. Personally, I don't watch Wedding TV or whatever it's called but I can imagine what it's like..tacky like you say.
Kate's dress did radiate her inner beauty, you're right. You never know, there may be a trend towards more classier looking dresses from now on...for all sizes of course.
I do hope so.

Hi Janey. I think people get too carried away with other people and want to have what others have. Me I am a blue jean baby. I was married in my sisters wedding dress when I got married the first time but everytime since it has been blue jeans and a court house wedding.....LOL I don't care or want what others have they can keep that dress that they will never wear again. If I am going to buy something I can't see buying something I will only use once and pack it up never to be seen again.....LOL I am glad that wedding is finally over now maybe the whole world can move on with their lives. thanks my friend hope you have a great day.

I believe that every bride wants her own wedding gown, but unfortunately for some they can just afford to borrow from her friends gown like i did, but it doesn't matter to me, what's important is that i will be sealed to my hubby for time and eternity. Maybe, in fairness to those bride's to be who wanted to have similar wedding gown with kate, maybe they think they will be look pretty in that similar design.

Some will, some won't..unfortunately. My own wedding dress was picked off a rack in a wedding dress shop. I knew for a fact I wouldn't suit ivory/white, so the choice was limited in my size anyway..which isn't Kate's size, believe me! As soon as I tried this Champagne Organza coloured dress on..well, I can't describe it really and it was in the sale too. LOL!
A wedding dress is a big decision, whether it is second-hand, new or made specially. I'm hopeful the British women will do what I did and not be swayed by current trends. If they pick what suits them (and the staff in the shops should help them with the choice as well..not automatically go for the dearest) then, like me, they cannot go wrong.
What I'm trying to say is they shouldn't let their hearts rule their heads. For example, I could've gone for a veil if I so wished but it didn't suit me and I went for a simple tiara instead.

For me,it is not the dress but the feeling of the bride from the entourage to the altar. The dress can not match the beautiful smile the bride is wearing as she walks on the aisle.

People do not realize that not everyone would suit the dress
Yes it looked lovely on Kate but I do not believe it will look good on others

Hi Janey!
Me too~ I like things in my own perspectives and ways. I don't like to be looks like the same or mimic other people style. I don't want to copy them as well. But we can't blame who would and may follow them. If it's good and suit with them then it's fine with me. Because the manufacturer know they will be demand from other people so they take the chance and opportunity to earn profit from it.

I fall in with your view. One ought to have personality rather than imitating celebrities'every move.Just as what you said, “no future bride will look as good as Kate did in her dress.”Here in China ,there was a idiom called "Dongshi xiao pin",It is appropriate to Use it for picturing those who follow celebrities. The tenor of it is that Dongshi,an ugly woman, knitting her brows in imitation of the famous beauty XiShi,only to make herself uglier.

So long as they look and - more importantly FEEL good, they can wear what they want.
I chose a blue wedding dress originally but I couldn't have it for various reasons. Plumped for a Champagne Organza one instead and I never regretted it. Ivory would wash me out lol.
